Blue screen of doom

A few days ago I turned on my trusty PC only to be met with a blue screen telling me that the computer is missing files and requires repair, error 0000034

It appears this is a Windows 8 fault and the only way to recover is to use the Recovery Disc.
I then discover that I was supposed to make this Recovery Disc myself when I first got the PC :rtfm:

I have two options, Go to Pissy World or other computer repair shop and let them wipe the machine clean to factory settings for £50
or buy a windows 8 recovery disc off amazon for £10 in the vain hope that it works :(

In the meantime ive been drinking.....heavily :guinn:

So a timely reminder to anyone not yet made a Recovery/Back up Disc, do it now

Geoff

I like your preparation Geoff

Damn bad luck on not having a repair disc. You're not the first and most certainly won't be the last either. Someone sitting at this pc typing doesn't have one for a start! :wasntme: :shhh:

Ditto,

Just listening to Neil Young "Don't let it bring you down"

Geoff

I really hope you haven't done this yet.
I believe that you are encountering a problem from a recent M$ update.
M$ have recommended removing recent updates as follows:-

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2982791

This isn't particularly easy to follow, but could save you an awful lot of pain (yes, M$ should make this easier to understand and release a patch ASAP).

Not easy, I know but far better than running a recovery disc.

Hoping for the best

Kevin

PS - Neil Young is awesome to listen to, whatever the problem. To M$ - 'Gonna give you 'till the morning comes....'

Geoff, do you have a 'restore point', created just prior to your problem that you could revert to?

Regards

Kevin

no restore point, couldnt access any of the hard drive at all, just the blue screen.

A man with a large brain has eventually got me up and running again but it needed a new hard drive to be able to boot the PC.

The old drive is still in place so ive been able to recover most of my stuff but FSX needed a fresh install but at least it works and im flying again :excited:
