Flying shotgun..

Last time I saw the B2 at Fairford (RIAT some years ago), it had a couple of F-15's flying shotgun. Missed the first run (as you do) but thought 'no prob.. they'll be back in a min'. :) They didn't come back.. just a single run and there they were.. gone! :(

Just a single F-15 today ;)

B2 Spirit: Alpha FS9 model
F-15E: MilViz

I got bored with the old Iris F-15C and as I couldn't upgrade it (you need the F-15E Mudhen Driver which you can no longer get!).. I got the MilViz version instead. I have to say that I'm so impressed with it, I don't know where to start.. so I won't  The 544 page manual is a bit daunting so thank goodness you can actually start it with 2 clicks (as I do) :cpu:

544 page manual?

Don't remember seeing that - just remember being told to watch the two narrative-less 'tutorial' videos on YouTube! :-O

I have their T-38, too, and I really like that.

Hi JD :)

Yes.. the manual is a 'blast' if you're into that sort of thing. I headed for the quickstart section and left it at that  It didn't come down with the model.. I had to download it separately along with the PK 8) It can do much, much more than I will ever want from it including MP with 'live' ammo if the other user has the same model :-O The FD is very pleasing. You have to pay more than a passing nod to what's going on at times but by and large, it flies very well. I've shied away from MilVis for ages (other than the Nemeth co-releases) but I have to say I'm impressed with all the fixed-wing models I have. The T-38 is a smashing looking model and tempting though I'm making do with the Iris F-20 which is similar to the same in shape and performance (though not, I fear, in ultimate quality).

I've been toying with the idea of getting the Aerosoft F-16 for a while but I've not seen it in a sale or reduced so I'm loath to pay the asking price for a model of this age. Reports about it are varied too. Do you have it by any chance?

The Milviz F-15E is a pretty good model. You can take out AI in normal single player freeflight as well Dave. ;)
I've got both the Milviz and Iris/Metal2Mesh Mudhens. There are pros and cons to both, I think I prefer the Iris/M2M one overall, but there's not much in it. Can't get the loadouts to appear on the Milviz one in P3d though, and the sim crashes on exit. *-)

Hi Dave :hello:

Yes, I bought the AS F-16 after I got the Iris one, (that's just the two-seater 'D' model) which I really liked. Lots of people were saying the Aerosoft version was much better. So I bought that, too, but I can tell you that I fly the Iris one a lot more! In fact, I can't remember the last time I flew the Aerosoft Falcon. :dunno:

It looks a lot more dull and drab, but I suppose that would be more realistic. Having said that, there are about half a dozen "what if?" RAF repaints for it that look nice.

I'm afraid I can't comment on FD, as it's so long since I flew it. I also have the mission pack that came with it and looks very interesting. If only I had the time... *-)

Oh, and I much prefer the Iris manuals. They are very simple, explain things very well and I print them out and put them in display books. Don't remember ever printing an Aerosoft one! :hide:

Hi Dave :hello:

Yes.. I'd seen briefly that AI could be taken out in free flight but I've not tried it yet. Not even tried the loadout manager which I know some folk were having problems with in FSX (getting loadouts to show) :worried:

Rgr that JD. I'm stuck with Kirk Olsens model dragged kicking and screaming into the future and reading one particular review of the AS model, it too has difficulty slowing down. I can't remember how Kirks model flew in FS9 but in FSX, you can almost fly it on closed throttle once it's up and running. One bloke commented that the AS model does this too :-O
Typically.. like their F-15E, the Iris F-16 is no longer available :wall: Seems I've joined the party too late

Having been keen on the AS model (other than the download size and price) I'm starting to talk myself out of it. Hope I can continue to resist when my BB limit resets in 5 days :worried:

Thanks guy's ;)

Dave i have the Milviz one in Prepar3d and with working loadouts, if you havent thought of it the DLL entry needs manually adding, sadly though i also have the crash on exit when flying the F-15...

Hi Chris, yes, I've added the required dll entries. Haven't spent much time trying to get it to work so I've probably missed something simple.

I don't want to rub it in, Dave, as you say the F-16D from iris is no longer available - but here is a nice YT video of it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnTI0chOi7o

Seems nuts that they just stopped selling it with no real explanation. :dunno:

Edit: Ah, it seems they are doing a remake for their Air Force series...

As often is the case, they have released a soundpack first, with the following comments:
The IRIS AudioworX F-16 sound-pack for FSX is our very first sound-pack release for Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

Designed and developed for the upcoming IRIS Pro Series F-16D, this product has been tested in various other freeware and commercial military jets including the Aerosoft F-16.

This product features all new sounds recorded from the interior and exterior of the Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon, along with custom sounds for the VMS or ‘Bitching Betty’ which have been developed for incorporation with the GPWS and various other warning sounds such as over-speed warnings and stall warnings.

All in all, we are very happy with the end result of this product and we’re confident that you will enjoy the new audio experience that this sound-pack brings to your favorite military aircraft, be it the F-16 Fighting Falcon or any other single engine military jet!
