For a couple of weeks now I have been plagued at default airfields with an offset "tower viewpoint" together with the incorrect selection of the default nav 1 freq. I have no idea how to correct the tower viewpoint problem. Can someone please help me?

No idea why this has suddenly started happening Hobby You can move the tower view to any position you like by moving the tower in MAP view but this is only a temporary fix as far as I can remember. Offsets in Nav1.. you've got me there too

Sounds like a scenery file has been added.

I have towers move on their own often, usually they go back on their own. Not loaded anything in the interveening.

Yes, I have added some scenery files recently. I cannot fathom out why that should displace the tower viewpoint(s) in the default scenery. I do hope that my default towers will return to their correct places, preferably without any meddling on my part!!

Just disable the scenery you added and see if that fixes it. Its s good place to start

Most of the problems I encounter in FS9 are caused by myself! The basis of my recent problems seemed to be that my FS9.cfg was in an incorrect place on my computer! How it arrived there I have no idea!

This afternoon I searched our forum to find the correct address for this file which seems to be: Settings/User/Application Data/Microsoft/FS9
(there are one or two other locations including one in a file called "Roaming" - which is where I found my own fs9.cfg file!!!!!)

I then reconstructed my system and placed the FS9.cfg in the correct place i.e. Settings/User/Application Data/Microsoft/FS9

My next step was to reset up FS9 from scratch going through all the assignments etc. The result was that all my aircraft now pick up the correct radio and nav frequencies and the correct tower view for the stock airport actually works as it should.

However not all the problems have been solved because when I try to change aircraft "on the run" good old FS9 does a speedy CTD!!! Not found the answer to that one yet - except to restart FS9.

Lurking with the FS9.cfg at its incorrect location I found a surprising assortment of files: A duplicate file containing all my FS9 aircraft from which one selects the aircraft that one is going to fly together with the scenery cache, ASA Map, ASA Map Image, ASA Map Req In Prog, asa_wx_info.dat, asax_wx_info.dat, navlog6 and navlog12.

The "Aircraft" file seemed quite out of place at that location so I have deleted that from my machine - obviously I retained the "Aircraft" selection list which is within FS9.

Should the other files listed above (scenery cache etc.) still be in the same "Application Data/Microsoft/FS9" file or can they be deleted?

Hobby mate, that's the right location for your FS9.cfg if your running any OS later than Win XP. i.e if your have Vista, Win7, Win8 etc, it should be in... C:\Users\Ben\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FS9
You shouldn't go moving these things about, the program puts them in the correct place and they should be left there mate

I am running Windows 7. I installed my FS9 program on a separate Disk (not "C" but "G"). Of course I do have a "C" drive. Are you advising me that the FS9.cfg should be on my "C" drive with the address: C\Users\Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\ FS9?

I had no idea that W7 used "roaming" in the correct address.

What I'm saying is that it doesn't matter which drive you install FS (any version) there are some things that always get added to the C drive. This is because they make up part of a user profile. If you move the FS9.cfg file to another location, a new one will simply be recreated back in the C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FS9. The system will only ever use the file from the correct location, so if you move it, it would never be used. Does that make sense?
