You can stow your hammer for this one Colin.. I don't have DCS  Pity as a decent Huey at that price would go down well :(

All well and good, but don't you have to fly in the DCS world?

Hi Gents,

Perhaps not the place but i love that A10 Warthog, it's been a favorite of mine for years and i have seen DCS of course but i'm toooo old for combat! but would like to fly the A10, ,

So if i purchase the DCS A10, download DCS World can i just learn to fly the Warthog without getting blown to Hell?

It would make a change if nothing else, i see on DCS site there is a mass of video's so this might while away the coming winter months!

Any info would be much appreciated.

Yo Dave :hello:

No.. I didn't realise it was free but I see what you mean about the download.. 6.25GB :-O On a fair month, I end up with around a gig free so this 'free' download would undoubtedly cost me a fiver. It aint gonna happen

You shouldn't be too disappointed, Dave (I can sense that you are really upset  ) - I have all of the modules and the 'Huey' is a real SOB to fly.

I bought it just to support the developers, but when I had a go - well, let's put it like this, I haven't flown it since then.

I do, however, really enjoy flying the Black Shark (just started a campaign - reports on my website ;) ) whether for fun or in combat.

You can fly around as much as you like without getting knobbled, guys - in fact I have done considerably more hours doing peaceful VFR flight around Georgia and the Caucasus than I have in any sorties.

You can design your own missions - so if you don't want an enemy, you don't have to have one. You can even just spend 1 minute designing a 'mission' which simply places you on the pan in the aircraft of your choice and you can fly around to your heart's content.

As for the A-10 - I take it you mean the A-10C? It is interesting, but not a fave of mine - I find it gets tedious in combat because it's too easy to blow stuff up. I like a challenge such as that provided by the Su-25. No gadgetry - just you, a sight and the hardware! There is a full-blown (payware) tutorial campaign for it, too, if that floats your boat. HERE

There is also the A-10A, which we would call a "sim-lite" or some such. Good aerodynamics simulation (AFM) but no clickable cockpit - it's all done via the keyboard. You can still have fun in it, though.

The Campaign that comes with the Huey is all SAR type stuff, I believe. I think you are working for the UN in that one and retrieving downed pilots and looking for lost shipping, etc. One for the pacifists :) Mission 1 report at SHQ

I've just bought the Mi-8 myself, but I think it is not really fit for purpose just yet.

EDIT: I just had my first 'lesson' and successful take-off/flight/landing in the Mi8 and it's actually really good fun - miles better than that crazy Huey (though everything is in Russian *-) )
