Classic British Flight Sim

Hope you guys aren't getting bored with these. For some reason the image quality was not so good this time. A bit of haze in the air and some back lighting and I probably need to get a decent UV filter. Not sure that having the image stabiliser on "mode 2" whilst on a monopod is such a great plan either. Probably ought to go to the local airport and shoot a few there for practice with all the kit and work out what works best!

Location here is Flugplatz Mollis, another former military airfield in a valley, this time in Kanton Glarus. This is advertised as the biggest air show in Switzerland, which it might be, this year.

They all look wonderful to me Toby!...As for mode 2 on the IS, I'm sure that is the best setting for it, even on a monopod...Sometimes I think that tracking on a monopod is not as easy as doing it freehand. Great images!

BTW...What Mark is that Spitfire? I have always liked that fin shape and prefer it to the more normal one

I concur about the monopod. I think I will use that for still shots in low light in future!

Spitfire appears to be this one: http://www.warbirdregistry.org/spitregi ... te184.html MkXVI. Certainly the four bladed prop, the Griffon engine, the pointy tail and the protruding canons mark it out as a later model. Seems its been used in a lot of film and TV work.

I concur about the monopod.

I had a couple for years and just couldn't get on with either.

Thanks Toby...Maybe that fin is associated with Marks that have the Griffon rather than the Merlin. There is quite a bit more rudder area with that shape and maybe it was required on the take-off!

Mike - They're Beech 18s escorting the Dakota if that's what you meant? Lockheed Electra (pre war) is similar in appearance but has a pointier, 'stepped' nose.

Peter - that makes good sense. I've never thought about it, but the change in the vertical tail might exactly coincide with the change in engine. Someone who knows more about Spits than me (or has the book that I have in the UK) would confirm.

The Spit looks like a high back XVI & the engine is a Merlin (Rolls or Packard) because its a RH tractor - Griffons are LH tractor.

Just googled it - Its apparently correctly called a LF XVIe with a Packard Merlin 266.
