Twin Otter Help

I know it's a bit cheeky but with so many Twin Otter pilots here (I hope) just need a bit of advice as cannot access their Forum from here.

Got it today and if you really want to know what I think of it or how I got on....quite simply I managed to destroy 3 engines, completely lost all power on approach and watched miserably as the runway disappeared behind a hedge then hit the ground with 2 engines on fire. When I got another one out of the hanger and had a cup of coffee I started eng 1 and that caught fire!!!! :doh: Decided then it would be a good idea to read the manual!! :rtfm: Apart from those teething problems it is absolutely brilliant!! :excited: Looking forward to flying it again tomorrow but need some advice.

I cannot get the ILS /VOR instrument on the capt side to function - then co-pilots side is working but mine does not I have been looking for a switch (the same in the cs737-200) where you can switch over to VOR1 or 2. Can any kind sole please tell me if there is a switch or how I can get the ILS instrument VOR1 to work, had a quick look through the manual with no joy.

Glad I'm not the only one Nigel :lol:

Burned two engines trying to manual start on Barra beach on my first outing from Glasgow :doh: :lol:
Resigned myself as captain & hired a rowing boat to get back home (and added mental note to RTFM when I got back to base two weeks later :lol: )

The first time you fry a motor is quite a surprise, you really need to look after the donks :lol:

I must admit in all of my Twotter flights I have never tried an ILS approach so I can't help much with your problem, the fields I tend to fly into don't have much in the way of infrastructure :$

If I get the chance I'll try one tonight and see what happens.

Nigel..

I've never cooked an engine on the Twotter so I guess the new version is rather more than a facelift.

Regarding Nav1/Nav2.. on the old version, you can't switch between radios. Nav1 is linked (hard wired if you will) to the HSI and Nav2 to the DME instrument. You're either gonna have to RTM or seek guidance from guys with the new version I'm afraid :lol:

I know its not related to the otter, but i fried the An-2 engine on start up, soon read the manual... OK starting up next time but then burnt it out in flight, missed out the cowl flaps!

:lol: :lol: At least I'm not alone Gordon or Chris for that matter!!. :lol: :lol:

Dave, they must have improved this version as if you open the fuel levers (on the overhead next to the props and throttle controls) before start then you will fry 'em!! :worried: Also temps have to be monitored as well as icing etc. Went in for a very short landing and used the reversers on approach to bring the speed down before arrival!! :worried: Certainly found that interesting.

Back to my plea for help......After a bit of time sat in front of the Nav Aids I found it!! :excited: VOR1 Nav frequency selector (Captains' side) is on the left hand side on the Garmin Map Control itself whereas the co-pilots Nav selector freq is below it.

Problem solved so with the week-end coming up I can see plenty of flights in Scotland to Barra!! :)
