Decisions Decisions!!

And still none the wiser!!

The good wife has said that I can buy one more a/c for my birthday then it is batten down the hatches and make savings so having looked around I have come across 2 aircraft that have taken my fancy.

The first is the from Just Flight the 146-200/300 Jetliner

http://www.justflight.com/product/146-2 ... r-download

Second choice is the PMDG BAE Jetstream

http://www.precisionmanuals.com/pages/p ... s4100.html

Both appear good but not sure which one to go for as need one for short hops of roughly 45 - 60 mins duration into smaller airports such as Dundee, the prop version appeals to me more than another jet (Ricks HS748 to blame as fly it regularly in FSX) but if any-one has either one I would be grateful for an idea as to how they both perform.

Many thanks in advance.

Nigel.

I can't comment on either of those as I don't have them, but I think the Quality Wings 146/RJ package would be a better bet than the Just Flight offering.

Just when you're trying to narrow it down, might I widen the choice up ? Aerosoft have just released a Twin Otter to widespread acclaim.

They are releasing it in the same way they did their Bronco, with the basic model now, and a free expansion with more models to come soon. I won't be getting it myself as I have too many aircraft I've paid money for and ended up never using, but its one you might consider.

Other than that, the PMDG Jetstream would be the one that appeals to me most. :)

I would say in general PMDG trumps any JF offering when it comes to realism if that is your schtick.

Limited knowledge and therefore opinion here, but from what I have seen of JF I a not all that impressed

Nigel, I have some stuff from JF (Tristar, Connies and the Duchess) and would find it very hard to recommend their products. They can be made to work but, unless they are the only ones making a particular aircraft, I would look elsewhere. I haven't bought anything from PMDG since I moved to FSX so I can't comment on that, but I did buy the Aerosoft Twotter and I have to say that I'm impressed.

The current release is the -300 wheels version, but the various float models and a -100 will be released as a free update later. It's great for those quick flights, and is quite complex for a basic turboprop. It has some nice features and is well worth a look.

I have the JF 146 which I bought when it was reduced on one of their bank holiday offers. It's ok but the panels are a little FS9 and "toy town" in colour and realism. Having said that, it handles lovely and for a mid complexity airliner isn't bad.

If you like fiddling about a lot, or massive realism, I wouldn't get it. Having said that, I've never owned a PMDG product.

I have both, but I haven't done much flying in the BAe-146 as yet. I try to test fly everything I buy as soon as possible, but the 146 wouldn't start (I didn't have the manual to hand and though I can usually work it out from looking at the switches, I couldn't in this case). I wouldn't let that put you off, but you will need to RTM to get it working. There are some YouTube vids showing the process.

The problem is, you say you want them for 45 mins to 1 hour flights. Well although the PMDG JS4100 is, imho, the best of the three, it can take a while to get started. In fact when you first get going with it, it will likely take you the large part of half an hour or more, and then reduce from there.

The 146, once sussed, will probably be a 2 or 3 minute starter, and the same goes for the Twotter. I don't have the new one, but I do have the Twotter X. It's a great model and fun enough to fly. But the Jetstream is better.

Decisions, decisions...

PS - I'd suggest you watch some YT vids to help you decide. Here are some to get you started:

(JS4100, 146 & Twotter in that order).

Wow guys!!! now you have really got me thinking. Dave, just had a brief look at the Quality Wings 146/RJ package and must say that appears really good!! Appears better than the JF one from the screen shots so will certainly look at that again. PaulC many thanks for your comments also and have taken them on board to think about.

I think PaulK has really made it even harder with his suggestion of the Twin Otter, now that does look good.

John, many thanks for the video links, will have a look at them when next down at the library as can't access from work.

Well, it is going to be next month or thereabouts before I actually purchase but have always allowed myself plenty of time to look at the software in order to try and make the right choice and all comments here have been really helpful so thanks chaps.

Will eventually let you know what I have decided on next month!! *-)

Regards
Nigel.
