Classic British Flight Sim

Been flying the DM Trident 3 for a while, recently an anomaly has sprung up on the throttles, I advance them to 100% for take off but fairly quickly they retard slightly. If I move the lever back and forward a bit they go back to full power then retard slightly again.

This is not an issue with the quadrant as the HS21 is the only aircraft that does this and it happens even if I disconnect the quadrant and use the F4 key to get max throttle, it rolls back to approx. 11,500 Rpm 97%.

Once the aircraft is above about FL150 I can get, and maintain, full throttle.

I have tried manually messing around with thrust index but it seems to make no difference.

Any ideas?

No immediate answer to this I'm afraid. I've just run the Trident up and down for 5 mins or more and the throttles have remained where I've left them. I wondered if it were the 'Top Temp' switches causing your roll-back so tried them too but the throttles remain steady.

Can you give us a bit more detail about your setup.. OS, Sim e t c.

Hi Chaps,

Its the "top temp" switches. If the switch is on, the throttles automatically retard slightly to prevent them from cooking. If you switch them off, the throttles will stay fully open, but you'll cook the engines unless you manually manage the throttle to keep them cool enough.

Thought the same thing Ben But Dave said he tried it and the throttles didnt move back

The top temp is affected by air temp and pressure as well as if water / meth has been used, so my money is still on that

I hope it IS the top temp switches as that's the logical explanation but as mentioned.. I had a T3 on the runway at LHR, brakes on and the throttles jammed to the stops and they didn't budge, either with the switches made or not.

I think it's fair to say that operation of these things does vary over time according to OS/Sim/FSUIPC e t c. The Vanguard is a prime example. The last time I saw a proper brake effect for the props from closed throttles in descent was with WinXP SP2 on my older pc. It never worked correctly after installing SP3 and there's absolutely no reason for it not to have done.

For sure.. the 'anomaly' isn't an inherant problem with the Trident. It's been around too long in it's present guise to have suddendly sprung a problem

EDIT: having seen your last Ben, it's worth noting I didn't have water-meth and pressure was at standard

Hi chaps,

Just went to Nicosia in ZK. Outside temp was about 26. Top temp off, throttles fully forward, they stay that way and engine temp goes into the red, flick the switch and throttles retard and temp stays in the orange / yellow

Just thought I would mention that TTC does not normally MOVE throttles...It reduces the fuel flow to the engine without moving the lever

Switching off TOP TEMP does indeed cure the problem, will need to manually check the temperatures in future.
