Hi Chaps..
Do any of you use the spell checker that comes with Google toolbar? I've used it for yonks without problems but the last couple of days.. it's started giving me that awful Windows 'donk' sound with a message saying it's unavailable. Anyone else seeing this or is it just me

After the prob I had after a Java install.. I've refused subsequent updates and wonder if this is the cause

I have to admit I do too George but I've found the Google toolbar useful over the years. I've got most of it disabled but I use Google as a search engine, Google maps is useful and of course, the spell checker. Looking up at it now.. I've just found out how to get rid of the g+ button (Google share) so all I have now is search and spell check.. oh, and More>>. No idea what's in More>> and I don't care

Dave - you sound like that sketch from Life of Brian - What have the Romans ever done for us?

What? Oh Google toolbar, yeah, but just for the spellchecker, but what else? Well, Google Earth, obviously, but what else? OK, Google Search of course ... and Google maps is useful, granted. But what
else have Google ever done for us?
Keep up the struggle, comrades. You'll defeat them in the end

That's a good spot Ian. It wasn't intentional but put like that, it fits a treat
Is Google Earth on the toolbar?? It's not on mine. I use it a lot but from a desktop icon. Quite literally.. search, maps and spell check. IE8 (none of your new rubbish here) doesn't include a default spell checker neither does Outlook.. you need to have Word installed and use
it's spell check function.. which I don't have hence.. a requirement for the Google toolbar spell czechker

For several years now I've used Mozilla's 'Firefox' for browsing and Mozilla's 'Thunderbird' for emails. Both have built in spell checkers (available as plug-ins based on language) and both work way better than anything offered by MS.

You boys!
Google Earth is a stand-alone program. It has it's own icon on the desktop or app on the iPad. As to all the other Google stuff it's all accessible through or incorporated in Chrome. I'm not trying to sell it, honestly, I know when I'm beaten!
But just as an explanation ... Chrome updates itself continually so doesn't require periodic upheavals. Obviously it doesn't need the toolbar because all the Google functions are built in including my GMail account and calendar which syncs with my phone and iPad calendars. It's a very handy no-maintenance one-stop shop. And pretty. And fast. OK - I'll shut up
