FS9 Problem Frozen selection screen

I decided to have a look at the F-111C by Steven Hess and downloaded FS9_111C_ver_2 from Simviation.com.
After installation of this file I am no longer able to select any acft other than the default Cessna, I am now unable even with the default Cessna to select any other airfield.
I have searched the whole of my system to see if a duplicate F111C is hidden inside Fs9 but to no avail.
On attempting to select a non default acft or any airfield other than the default Seattle I am faced with a frozen blank screen. The only way to get rid of that blank FS9 screen is to brutally switch off my computer and then restart it from scratch. I have absolutely no idea why this problem has arisen and not a clue on how to solve it. Never had a frozen screen in Fs9 before.
Checked for Malaware - none detected.
I am not pleased!
Can a member of the forum suggest a corrective course of action which does not involve re-installing FS9 from scratch?

The easiest suggestion I have is to find and delete your fs9.cfg.
When you restart FS9, it should rebuild the fs9.cfg.
A situation like you described is possible if fs9.cfg is trying to load a default flight with an aircraft with a corrupt gauge or model. Installing the F-111 should not cause a freeze as you described, unless something doesn't function with your setup and you set the aircraft as your default.
Anyways, try that and report back on your progress.

I'd dig all the bits out for that F111 and bin the darned thing too

There should be no need to reinstall FS9.. just remake your cfg as suggested

Update at 15:02 Hrs GMT.
I have worked on this problem for most of today. I went through every file in the FS9 Aircraft, Gauges, Effects and Effects Textures files deleting everything I could find that was part of the F111 setup. There was quite a lot including a Mooney file found in the gauges folder as well as some innocent 707 mv EPR1 & 2 gauges.
Defragged both my disks, FS9.cfg is on 'C' , my FS9 program is on 'G'.
Cleaned computer with CCleaner.
I can see all my acft on the 'Select Aircraft' list and can select any acft but when the 'Fly Now' button is pressed a black frozen screen appears.
Likewise with the default Cessna selected no other airfield can be selected successfully.
I am pretty sure everything connected to that F111 download is out except that after rebuilding the FS9.cfg several times today I cannot get my Fs9 setup to select an acft of choice and the default Cessna arrives at Seattle incompletely textured although it does fly correctly. Note when one switches to the virtual panel that certainly has most of its textures missing!
So some hours of work later I am still stuck with an Fs9 system that suddenly does not work.
More help required please.

7 lb. Lump Hammer?
That's the way I feel at the mo. Had to re-installs FS9 and up date. All OK until I came to put other stuff back. Took 2 or 3 attempts to get RAF Scotland from Scotflight to register/show in the in the scenery library, but no amount of cursing will get the UK2000 stuff back in.
Says loaded, seems to build scenery on start up, but no show in the scenery library and the files are in place in the programme/sim folders.
Run out of cuss words now, so going to leave it. Meeting to get to in Donny.
Sorry for the hi-jack.

Dear me..
I honestly thought the cfg rebuild would have fixed the problem.. it usually does. It would seem something more significant was broken with that F1-11 install

Another option would be to try the 'repair' function but I'm not sure how this would work with the 9.1 patch installed. To be honest, I don't have much faith in these 'repair' functions. I've only ever used it once and that was with FSX. Ultimately, I ended up doing a re-install. This said.. with the current state of your FS9.. I guess there's nothing to be lost in trying to repair it but I've a fear the repair will be aimed at the original FS9 install and not what was added/changed with the 9.1 update.

I seem to recall that a black frozen screen was related to some graphic settings or driver issues in FS9.
Ah.. now I remember.
I had the same issue recently when I installed FS9 under Windows 8. Switching the windows mode (Alt-Enter) was the only way I could view the aircraft and get ride of the black window.
Previously I had seen some threads regarding the 'render-to-texture' and card 'AA' settings can also cause the black preview screen.
Just some suggestions for you to try before a reinstall approach.

This is not a solution to your problem but may be a preventative one for later. Did the F111 come with an auto-installer? If so, firstly take Daves' advise and bin it and secondly when using an auto-installer on an aircraft you have not had before don't click to install into flt sim instead create a folder on desktop name it Extracted or whatever you fancy then install into that folder.
From there copy them manually into your main a/c, effects, sound folders etc. that way should you come across another problem with an add-on aircraft you can go through your FS Folders and delete them individually and hopefully that will prevent a further repeat of what you have gone through if it is the F111 to blame.
Regards
Nigel.

The black screen in 'Select Aircraft' can be got rid of by changing your AA settings. I seem to remember this only happened with Nvidea cards. If you don't want to change your AA settings, Ctrl+alt+enter is the only other alternative.. moving from fullscreen to windowed mode.
I understood this had only happened after that F111 had been installed though. I'm still trying to understand how the installation of one model would cause this amount of damage
