Classic British Flight Sim

Here are my first few random shots. I've just hopped about to different areas to have a look and so far it's superb.
Only 200,000 sq miles and 270 airports to explore!

I hope you've got something a bit quicker than that in mind Ian - Northern California ain't too far off and at this rate you'll be in SAK for 10 years or more! Looks superb BTW so may just have to take the plunge - trouble is, far too many things clamouring for attention at the moment.

It's very picturesque Ian but I'm resigned not to buy it. I've a perfectly good UT Canada/Alaska in FS9 I've not seen a 10th of along with Glacier bay.. together, two of the most unused sceneries I've ever bought. The one major downside of FS9 is that it doesn't have pretty water

I have installed it Ian, but not done much yet...McLeland Field complex has some bad flooding problems and needs a few flattens, but I think I will just ignore that for a while and base myself at Anchorage for exploring

I'll get Northern California so that I've got SFO as a destination for my classic Boeings but, as you say, there's 10 years or more of bush flying in Alaska alone! I've already found some little airstrips with log cabins and smoke coming out of them all hidden away up the fjords. And if I did ever get bored there's always Return to Misty Moorings for a few hundred more

Peter - sorry it sounds like you've got a lot of work to do at McLeland Field. You sound quite confident, though, so fingers crossed. Holger has done a fantastic job of blending the scenery with Aerosoft Anchorage X. He gives two simple solutions which give either the full extended photoreal Aerosoft area or just within the airport perimeter. The Aerosoft area is a bit paler than the FTX and their snowy winter season extends a month either side of the FTX winter meaning that for two months of the year there is snow on the airport and not outside. Both solutions look good to me and I can't choose between them!

Mainly for Peter's benefit, here are some shots of Aerosoft's PANC Anchorage after Holger has applied his magic blending brush. This is the option of having FTX SAK scenery right up to the airport perimeter and the huge Aerosoft photoreal extended scenery disabled in the scenery library. You can see that the textures within the perimeter are much paler but the edges have been faded rather well. Leaving the photoreal textures in place takes about a 5fps hit over using the FTX scenery up to the edge and you can see that I'm almost achieving my 30fps target despite 100% AI traffic and most sliders to the right, so it's a good compromise. I know Peter doesn't have PANC currently but may want to consider it as it isn't very pricey and he already has most of their aiports

I'm really pleased because Holger said he was going to do his best but wasn't optimistic - fortunately he was wrong as I intend for Anchorage to be my Alaskan base. I spent many wild and happy trips here in the 70s and 80s so I do have a soft spot for the place In fact you can see our crew hotel in the distance in the first shot - the two yellow/brown towers near the sea. It's called the Captain Cook after our intrepid explorer who was the first to map the area and named a lot of the inlets. So it's almost British - I think

My personalised helicopter will get a bit of airtime up here as well. Thanks to a very nice helicopter personaliser (that'll keep them guessing )
