Sound in FSX

Oh deary me!! First time this has happened, have Realtek on-board sound system, no problem with the sound when not in FSX however when in FSX ATC can hardly be heard even when all speakers turned up full as well as on-board sound system full up, engine sounds are also quiet, unable to find where the problem lies and only thought is to uninstall FSX and re-install. Fortunately won't take long as don't have much installed but would rather find another way ofdealing with this if any-one can offer help.
Regards
Nigel.

Hi Nigel,
Sound in FSX is a funny bugger but it sounds as though you've either turned the sound down in FSX itself, or which I have done a few times, is the sound coming out of your head phones. It doesn't sound like FSX problem as such, so I wouldn't reinstall.

Hi Ben turned the sound all the way up in FSX itself via the sound tab, I do wear earphones so wonder whether it could be that? There is no volumn adjustment on the earphones themselves and went all the way through the Realtec setup putting everything to 100% so I'm lost as to what this could be. Unfortunately did not think to pull out headphone plug from speakers to see if that improved the sound.

Will give it a try tomorrow and see if there is any improvement, strange though that it was OK one minute and the next time I went flying it was all very quiet (auto noise abatement springs to mind)

If you're running Windows 7 you might want to right click on the volume icon in the taskbar and choose "Open Volume Mixer", quite a few times I have found that the volume for FSX has been far down compared to other items.
NB: Make sure you have FSX running while you do this,
Allan

Hi Nige,
While you're there, just make sure the headphones are in the headphone socket, and not in microphone.
EDIT, and if you're plugged into the digital socket, are you on digital sound?

Could try checking DirectX by running DXDIAG
