Pompey Navy Days

Warning.. this thread contains shots of an extremely Naval nature which some of you may find interesting :worried:

Spurred on by George (though perhaps he didn't realise it).. I decided to give the dockyard a little more oomph while taking it back a few years in the process. I keep thinking I've finished but there's more to be done. I've started reinstating Dolphin as SM1 and a couple of 'O' boats are tied up there already. I'd like to add Vernon but as it's now a shopping centre with Spinaker Tower.. I doubt that's gonna happen. My WIP is by no means 'Picture perfect' but it does look rather more like it did when I was there some 24 years ago. Call it a mixture of old and new ;) I've kept the original file I had with more modern warships and can zip forward in time in 2 shakes of a little lambs tail :) Here's what I've got so far..

I've had to be careful what I added at Pompey because of the Portsmouth Scenery that surrounds it. I've since moved on to Devonport and my files there go from the Tamar bridges to the outer harbour wall. I've not finished yet  I've also added a bit of interest at Falmouth and more coastal venues are under consideration. Were it not for a thread Mike started ages ago which eventually found it's way into the Developers forum.. I'd not have started any of this so I thank him and George and Ben and all the folk who've made the original stuff. No Ark Royal IV or Fearless/Intrepid in any harbour yet.. they're busy out at sea as AI  The GenX scenery at Portsmouth puts both Fearless and Intrepid in 3 basin with Invincible.. mothballed and waiting for disposal. I'm not that ready to see them go yet ;)

Dave :hello:

I suppose my S&P Diesel Electric...a standard type at RN bases, (but not Devonport) and other ports is too poly intense for a scenery object?

No mate.. the more the merrier :)

After adding a few buildings to show Dolphin as something more than flat has started to hit the old frames.. sort of 'all of a sudden.. frame hit'! :-O I've not given up yet though. Certain bits can be moved/removed which should speed things up again ;) Problem with Pompey is that it covers a comparatively small area. Walking from one end to the other would take a while but compare this to Plymouth which had buses running (I kid yea not!).. you get an idea of the size difference. I seem to have a lot more at Plymouth but as yet, it's running fine.

I've been on quite a few blue buses with Royal Navy on the side in my time. A few of these scattered around will be fine I'm sure ;)

I can package one up late if you want to play at making it scenery

If it works I might be able to reduce the polys a bit.

A reminder

That's a bobby dazzler

Forgive my tangent about buses. Think I got on the wrong one

I'm not sure how many cranes like that I'd be able to use as it's far more sophisticated than the defaults or the ones I'm using from a dockyard_cranes library (I've no idea where this came from :dunno: ) but it's a fine looking crane ;) Seems a shame to cut it down in detail :(

Gentlemen,

May I remind you that the F in FS9/FSX is for 'Flight' and not 'Fleet'.

Thank you. :hide: 8) :agree:

And in all but one of my shots (the first which was taken from Riva) you will see a helicopter in view. I'd taken the afternoon off from chasing Patrick McGoohan up and down the beach at Portmeirion.. sorry.. at The Village
