Early Morning Launch

Whilst Ted's gone to Blackbush and Ian to Anchorage, I thought I'd re-visit Blackburn.
After an early breakfast it's out to the airfield....
On the way to the runway as the sun's coming up....
Up and tucking away the Dunlops.....
Down to low level where the Bucc loves to be.....
Run and Break back at Lossie
Home for coffee.....
Thanks for looking

Nice set of pics Nige

That's a good looking S2 isn't it
Though wrapped up reinventing Old Warden for most of today.. I did find time for a bit of bird watching..
Avert your eyes from the dolly and you'll see what I was watching standing on the breaker post!

DC.. I dunno how many poly's you've crammed into that thing but I just downloaded it and it immediately runs my system out of memory when I try and load it

I tried taking the traffic gauge out in case it was that (deleting it from the FSX.cfg then refusing to let it load) but every time I try to load it in the UK.. I run out of memory before the aircraft loads. I tried it from Friday Harbor and it will load up there.. hardly useful
Damn shame as it's a fine bit of kit

Yo Gaffer
Well mate.. I was stunned too

The flying pc hadn't been used for maybe an hour. Was sat in the living room looking through the forum on our laptop.. looked at this thread again and thought 'I'll have me some of that'. Came onto the flying pc.. downloaded the Bucc and installed it. Selected Valley so I could have a looksee at Ark Royal which conveniently passes close by at my default startup time/day.. the sim loaded with the default Beech.. selected one of the RN paints.. do you want to accept gauge XXX.. do you want to accept gauge XXXX.. while the sim changed to the Bucc.. big grey box stating my system was out of memory and I should change my graphics/traffic settings

The Bucc never actually loaded. Tried again.. same thing. Tried again without the traffic gauge.. same thing. Tried at Llanbedr.. same thing. Tried at Friday Harbor (default start location) and it loaded. The last 3 attempts using one of the RAE Buccs.
I removed the traffic gauge in case it was one of those clever ones that can see shipping. While I have GA and airline at only 30%.. I have shipping at 100% and vehicle traffic on a high setting too. It made no difference.
When I finally got it to load at Friday Harbor.. my pc was struggling but I actually got to see it inside and out and flew it for a min or so before the pc went to slideshow mode. I've gotta say Gaffer, it's head and shoulders the best model I've seen from UKMIL and comparable with so called 'High End' stuff. Pity I need a pc upgrade to fly it

The Flying Stations S1 is heavy on my pc.. dunno if it's a combination of all those curves or what but I was expecting the UKMIL model to be 'lighter' on FR's shall we say. Err.. no!
EDIT: Here ya go Dave. First opening of FSX for the day. I removed both gauge lines from the FSX.cfg prior to opening the sim so I could decline using them when the Bucc was selected. Model chosen.. RN S2b..

UK2K Valley/GenXv3/clear sky but for some light stuff up above 40k/no 'real' weather selected. WinXP SP3-32bit/Nvidia GTX560Ti 1gb/4gb system ram(3gb visible to XP).
There's obviously a lot going on scenery-wise with the Welsh mountains just a sheep throw away behind me but Valley isn't the most 'intense' airfield I could go to. Perhaps I can get away with trying it at Lossie!

Hi Chris..
2gig (2046mb)
Much as I'd like to be able to use the UKMIL Bucc.. I'm not gonna start arsing around with my system settings just to accommodate it so it's gone.. moved to somewhere safe should the time come I'm able to run it. In the meantime.. I still have the FStn Bucc S1 (which is greedy enough but useable) and better still (for me).. the Skysim Sea Vixen for all my carrier/FAA ops. It looks great, it flies great, it doesn't drain my system and it's the one model I can land time and time again on ArkIV. Can't remember the last time I had to do a bolter in it

I can do whatever I want in it (within reason).. it doesn't bite, it doesn't land with a ridiculously high AOA so I can see out of it. I can't fault it to be honest
I rarely fly the FS Bucc.. in fact I rarely fly ANY fast jet

The FS Bucc has an annoying thick silver/grey cylinder that shoots up the centre of the windshield every time I pop out for a goof and back again which is one reason why it rarely gets aired. It eventually naffs off when the VC has reloaded but it sure is a wind up
Up to now.. the QW RJ is the only model I've had memory issues with but even that loads.. albeit without any gauges. The UKMIL Bucc has the distinction of being the only model NOT to load.. unless I'm somewhere far, far away

It has exceeded what my pc is capable of displaying. I wonder what would happen if I sit at ES Shawbury and try to load it. My pc would probably melt

Hi Dave,
I was going to surgest you do a small trial with increasing it to see if it improved FS and the time it takes for the OOM error to show... Also is it set on system managed or custom size?

Hiya Chris
Yup.. I presumed that was going to be your suggestion.. it's set to managed/default (let windows choose the settings)

I have enough free space available to up the amount for the page file but to be honest.. if the model is that thirsty anyway, there seems little point. Although I may be able to load it.. flying it wouldn't be a great deal of fun. As long as I fly it outside the UK (GenX/Treescapes e t c) it will load but it's not as smooth as say the FS Bucc and certainly nowhere near any other fast jet I have.. namely the default F-18, Rick's Hawk, DG's Hunter and the already mentioned Skysim Vixen.
Thanks for the suggestion though.. it's something to keep in mind
