Didn't find anything on this anywhere. I have been a fan of Craig's work for some time and think he produces some outstanding work-
http://www.classicwings.net/ - He has developed and model some rare British aircraft over the years, his Eastbourne monoplane being my all time favourite and now he is developing one of the all time classic British aircraft - the Sopwith Camel see more on sim outhouse

Incidently Craig is featured on flightsim.com today.

Used the Camel in a couple of my early WWl sims, which won't work with win7.
Safer than the wing-shedding Spad, turned one way easier than the other due to engine effect.
Slowing down rather dodgy, as you had to turn the engine off, then back on, with possible resultant engine fire.
Will be interesting to see this one.

The Camel has been released now.

Not tried it myself yet, but I'll be downloading it soon.

Quite exquisite
Only had a quick couple of ccts but already, this little tinker is a joy. No hands off flying. Plenty of smoke and a lovely rasping soundset. Beware those of you with realism settings on the max.. there is a LOT of prop torque.. even with the settings low. Just when you think you have it licked going down the runway, as soon as both wheels are off.. the left wing will drop

She's easy to hang onto but as I said.. if what you're after is a leisurely Sunday afternoon with your feet on the combing.. forget the Camel!

Another nice touch.. the brake button on the stick acts as a machine gun in the air. It has a suitably period soundfile to go with it

While on the subject of brakes.. those of you with the sliders hard over beware. I didn't nose-over but I can imagine it possible. Put it this way.. the real aircraft didn't have brakes so you have a luxury. Just be careful with it

Not had time for a good mooch but everything is as you'd expect from this stable
It comes with loads of paints too. The one in the shots is RNAS (of course)
Verdict: I love it

Hi Dave

Many thanks for the information will be downloading as soon as I can borrow a computer, just wish the library would allow such downloads!!

Sounds an excellent a/c in every way and think that you have deserved a couple of virtual pints

after frightening yourself!!

As for no brakes and although it is 40 odd years since I flew it, I am sure that the Tiger Moth I once flew was the same......noooooo brakes!!!
Regards
Nigel.

I've just flown it from St Mawgan to Culdrose as a shake-out and confirm pretty much what I mentioned earlier. I checked my settings and they were on 'girlie' but I couldn't nose it over on my brief attempt at Perranporth with the 'General' tab on max

A constant but gentle RH stick pressure required all of the time to keep the wings level.. a bit of rudder every now and again.
I did have an issue at Culdrose when shutting down. It wouldn't

Not sure if this is something to do with the machine gun gauge.. I've had probs with it before

Even though I had the mixture pulled back and the fuel/mags off.. the engine had stopped turning but it was still gushing smoke and I could hear a 'cranking' noise as if the motor wanted to turn over. Came out of the sim and RTFM (that was early for me

) but no mention of correct shutdown procedure. Restarted the sim and cut the fuel on the Beech. Went to the Camel and it was silent. Fuel on, mags on, mixture up, pressed the button and off she went. Mags off, mixture back, fuel off and she cut.. no smoke and silence. Nothing major but I may be tempted to not use the machine gun to harass the natives
One other prob I have on this setup is mips and all the paints have mips. Some folk need mips.. I can do without em so I'll probably select a handful of paints I'm likely to use and resave em without

After some experimenting.. I believe the 'cranking' sound I've heard from time to time after landing was me bending the airframe. The sound appears to be the touchdown file and if you don't do a greaser.. that sound will let you know you've broken the gear. At least that's what I think is happening anyway

Odd it doesn't simply go away but I don't have crash detect on (a VA thing to stop running into invisible FS artifacts) so that may be it. Land as smooth as a babies bum and you won't hear it. Land a little heavier and you will
Another tip which sounds completely barmy but it works a treat..
When you're on your takeoff roll (which it has to be said is short.. about 6secs from fully stopped to airbourne).. just tweak the rudder to keep it straight (it doesn't need a great deal) and keep the stick hard over to the right.. that's right.. hard over to the right

Far from turning on your head.. you'll unstick with nice level wings. Gently release pressure as you feel the aircraft starting to bank right

Nothing happens fast and you'll get used to it in a jiffy

Keeping the stick hard right will counter the torque off the rotary trying to bury you into the ground.. no more. Anything less than full right stick and the torque WILL push the left wing down
