Classic British Flight Sim

Hi,

I only fly warbirds but fancy delving into medium range civil and military fast jet technology.
Can anyone recommend a good, medium range, civil airliner? Something that could land at London City.
Not necessarilly a jet, could be prop or turbo.

Also can anyone recommend a good, British fast jet. Can be vintage or modern? Perhaps something nippy but not too taxing (i.e. Vulcan).

Both the above need to have excellent virtual cockpits. Excellent sound sets. Good flying chracteristics. Good animations and visuals.

Which Sim Ted and do you prefer Glass or not?

If you don't mind payware, the QW RJs (and coming146) are pretty damn good.
Freeware, I'd go with DM's 1-11

For the civil jet I'd go for Dave Maltby's BAC 1-11 or Trident. They may be free but they're better than a lot of payware.

If you want to spend lots of time realistically starting the engines and programming the flight management computer in a more modern aircraft I found the Wilco Publishing Boeing 737 Pilot in command to be pretty good.

If your talking EGLC, the 146 is a must, the 737, Tridents and 1-11's will never get in (or out) of City. If you can live with FS9 props in FSX (I can, but realise its not for everyone) then the 748 is perfect for City, and with lots to do in the cockpit to keep you busy.

I'm with DG on the Mil jet as I'm a Hunter fan and his are superb. Its actually the only Mil jet I regularly fly and do most of my scenery testing with it. Others to consider are the Harrier (Either Wilco or Razbam depending on which era you prefer) and what about the Buccaneer S1 (there is an S2 in the works too) if you fancy something low and fast, with Carrier capability from Flying Stations.

The QW146 goes a treat in FS9 but will wring the proverbial neck out of your system in FSX if it's not got a shedload of ram. I'm only on a 32-bit OS so of the 4gb I have installed, only 3.2 is visible to the system and that aint enough for fun and games in the 146/RJ. As for flying it into the city.. my system would crash (run out of memory) well before I got there in it

If your after freeware then Milton Shupes Dash 7 or Rick Pipers HS748/Andover and Dave Garwoods Hunters would be my choice.
The new Majestic Dash 8 - 400, when released, maybe a good choice for payware if you have lots of dosh!

No preference really. I fly FSX.
