Glancing around the interweb (as you do).. I found another Police force needing a heli in FSX, this time from Ben's neck of the woods..

Colour for this was taken off a phot. It looks darned black to me but checking it in PS shows you can stretch it to dark blue.. maybe black with a hint of blue  It seems to work well and is probably a better match for POLA and NMID. It's black (v dark blue) most of the time and only really shows that it could be a blue in direct sunlight.. well, as direct as FSX gives. Easy to knock up (hence the reason it started from scratch and was done in a jiff before NMID). Need to put the fenestron/fin reg on and it'll be good to go. Pilot is courtesy of the WMPF as will all my future 135 pilots be

Where's his helmet (or is he just setting his harness up)? :hide:

I don't know how you've stuck with it for so long Dave, I've followed your posts on your Police paints and my PC would have been out of the window by now!, :wall:

I've the utmost respect for anyone who paints or creates on here. :welldone:

Wouldn't it just be like Navy blue???

The police uniform is supposedly blue but tends to look black and I guess it's the same colour as the uniforms???

Wouldn't what be Navy blue mate.. his uniform or the colour of the helicopter? Question is.. what exactly is Navy blue? I could dig my old N0.1 suit out of the loft and try to RGB it I guess  You know as well as any what FS does to colours, certain colours anyway and it's been a bugger getting the Police 'blue' to look 'in sim' as it does in phots. The original pilot wears orange btw. This was jobbed by someone along the way to look more beige which isn't suitable for anything really.

The pilot figure has defined left and right parts (his legs for example) but his torso/arms are mirrors.. is arms certainly. This is why you can put a badge on one arm and it'll appear on the other too but mirrored. His torso is a little different in that one half has it's own defined map but the other half tends to pull off the right arm so I couldn't get the flying suit chest badge onto the correct side.. it kept pulling off to the right.

You mention his helmet Paul and I explained this in the other thread. Only the 'Med' model comes with pilots/flying crew wearing helmets.. the other two do not. One model is like the Med but without the med gear and only one flightcrew.. no helmet. The other model is more like the Police versions and comes with the correct skids and a 'civvie' inside. The 'like' med model has med skids but no med interior. Like the med, it has a fahookin huge wire cutter on the front. Of the 3, the VIP is the closest to our Police helicopter.. correct skids, no wire cutter e t c but has a civvie pilot, completely civvie interior and a window in the LH rear clamshell door. Of course, it has no external camera/light fit as it's a civvie model. There is no Police model as such. I guess the Gendarmarie must use civvie fit helicopters :dunno:

To be honest, had someone not already done UKPF paints for it, I'd not have bothered but it seemed like a good idea at the time :) I took the NI paint on as it's exactly the same layout as POLA. All I had to do was remove things (ec135 lettering, Eurocopter wording and logo, finlet chequer) change the reg and force badge and that was it. Along the way, I thought I'd change the colour too but that was straight forward.. I duplicated the 'dark blue' layers and block filled the dupes in with the darker blue/black :) NMID will be different as the yellow upper fuse is completely different so I'll have to add new layers and paint to match ;) I could of course stop right here as no matter what I do, the model will be wrong.. no lights, no camera, only one flight crew and he doesn't wear a lid, window in rear clamshell door e t c, blah blah blah  The MD902 is a doddle by comparison as it is, intrinsically, a 'Police fit' even though it's not quite the same as ours.

Anyway.. Vista on this laptop has just shown the temp drop to -4 here so I'm off to put my cold feet on the missus

That used to be the case but it's all been black for at least a decade here, aside from the NATO jumpers which have now been ditched in favour of the scruffy fleece.

Although the trousers do turn dark grey very quickly...

Hi Chaps,

Had the perientals over this weekend and while I've been looking in form the phone, I was on promise of death if I touched the computer. Lovely work their Dave. Shows you how long I've been out of NI, I thought the RUC (PSNI) still had the Islander! Although with the current carry on an Apache might me more useful  Its funny mate, I used to love lying in bed in the back bedroom listening to the Lynx with the obo ball. The lynx has a very distinctive sound in the hover, they'd sit there for hours over the town and the sound would resonate up to the Castlereagh hills. The Gazelle sounded like a VW bettle (the original ones). The Puma's / Wessex were just transporters, never really used for obs in my time. Before the Islander the Army used the Beaver (I'm sure that was up until '91 or there abouts.) How times change.
