While the Mosquito is in the shop for some fettling by the maint crew, I took the opportunity to go on a 'fact finding mission' this afternoon.. goofing  A couple of nice visitors in today..

RAE's Varsity..

And this pretty lady..

Just time to nip up to the tower to watch her depart..

.. and there she was.. gone ;)

Varsity by Rick (and it goes darned well in FSX).. VC10 C1K by DM (and so does this).. supporting cast is the excellent Marham 90's scenery from ACG with JY's Victor and Canberra packs ;) There are GR1's there too but you didn't see those

You can't beat the VC10 in a proper livery mate, smashing

I know that wasn't considered Military enough, but she wears it very well and is probably my favourite followed by XX914 and then ZA141 in camo with the white belly. :agree:

Indeed mate ;)

I had to fight with that paint a little. DM likes to leave at least 1 mip layer on the 32bit paints and for general use, I find this blurs the subject matter too mudh. However, removing the mips can take it a little too far the other way. Pity there's no half mip setting

I love the ACG scenery.. it's detailed and runs like a good'un with as much AI as you can throw at it even on my core2 pc. The 'host' aircraft from here compliment it very well ;) I'm now on the Win7 pc with your old quad (replying to your post) and I'm interested to see how it runs FSX. Need another HD though so it'll have to wait a wee while ;)

I was only thinking this evening what a blast Rick's Varsity would be 'native' FSX and with.. dare I say it.. a VC. This applies equally to the VC10 :worried:

Indeed mate, a VC10 with the detail of the Trident, 1-11 or Comet would be lovely Jubbly, we'll just have to make sure DM keeps feeding the liluns their spinach so they can grow up to keep him in computers and software when he retires

Yes mate.. that or take over from him when he gets too old and infirm  That said.. I'm a good few years older than the maestro so I hope I live long enough to reap the benefits of his tutorledge (is that a word or have I just either made it up or misspelled it)??

Ah, Rick's Varsity ! My very first download of any description for FS9, and I absolutely loved it. Yes, a native FSX Varsity and VC10...I wish, too!

Great pictures, Dave. I'm still more than a little nostalgic for FS9, what with all the terrific freeware. It seemed you could find any aircraft you could think of, back then. Lovely VC-10 repaint too.

Yes indeed mate.. the halcyon days that were FS9. Fortunately, many of the FS9 models pop over into FSX ok with just a few minor niggles. The VC10 is a good example as is the Varsity. I tried the 780 today having seen Pete's post and found a lot of the instruments don't work.. too much custom code I guess. We had a lot of great models for FS9.. many of which won't be remade for FSX.. maybe not even P3D so you've gotta grab what you can or keep both sims which is what I've done ;)

Really nice pictures, Dave. Very atmospheric scenery and the aircraft look wonderful.

Thanks for those pics :agree:

Yes, my aircraft collection has shrunk quite dramatically since FS9. There aren't that many classics that work in P3D without annoyances so it's nice to see them in the air again.

Ian :)

Hi Dave, what problems are you having with the Andover mate, I seem to remember she was fine in FSX *-)

Hello Mate :)

Ooh now.. off the top of my head, the RPM's.. in fact most if not all of the centre panel didn't work.. I couldn't get the generators to light up on the LH OHP.. I didn't take it much further than that. I thought I had better success when I tried the 748 last week but I've flown so many things since then, I really can't remember  Maybe I should have gone to the 2D panel first.. I dunno mate to be honest *-)
I honestly can't remember now if I'd 'been around the block' with a few other aircraft before I tried the 780. Perhaps if I call it up after the sim has loaded with the default Cessna, it'll come right. I'll take a look ;)
