Organising the aircraft folder

A bit of advice please. Due to a sudden influx of AI aircraft my Airplanes folder is getting a bit cluttered.
I know that some of you keep your AI in a separate folder. Do you create a folder within Airplanes or within SimObjects (on the same level as Airplanes). And I assume it requires an entry in the scenery config. What does that look like please?
This would be for P3D/FSX. I could probably figure it out myself by trial and error but I've had a surfeit of fiddling with FS lately and I'm getting grumpy

Hi Ian
An easy way to separate the wheat from the chaff is to make another folder. Call it what you like but I call mine Aircraft (noting the standard FSX aircraft folder is called Airplanes). Then.. find your FSX.cfg and add this line sequentially to the bottom of the list.. SimObjectPaths.6=SimObjects\Aircraft
Plonk all the riff raff in there and FSX/P3D will still see them cause it knows where to look. This is how I keep all my old AI and non FSX native aircraft/models separate from the native stuff which lives in Airplanes

It has another function too. If you get bored with seeing a gallon of old aircraft being available in 'Select Aircraft'.. you can simply rem out the line in the cfg and in an instant, your oldies and unwanted odds and sods will disappear

Cheers, Dave. I knew you'd mentioned it before but I hadn't taken a note of it. That's exactly what I wanted to know. Thank you.

I do the same. Separate folders for AI, general add-ons & my own stuff.
Only possible drawback is that some aliasing may not work. If you have an aircraft that aliases the default 737 sounds for example, and you then move that aircraft to a different folder it won't be able to find the sounds without a bit of editing.

Same as the rest of the chaps pretty much. I have a folder called AI and the modified cfg. I'll be talking Nigel through it on Sunday evening

Mine looks like this
[Main]
HideMenuFullscreen=1
HideMenuNormal=0
SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjects\Airplanes
SimObjectPaths.1=SimObjects\Rotorcraft
SimObjectPaths.2=SimObjects\GroundVehicles
SimObjectPaths.3=SimObjects\Boats
SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Animals
SimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\Misc
SimObjectPaths.6=SimObjects\Ai_Other
SimObjectPaths.7=SimObjects\FS2004
SimObjectPaths.8=SimObjects\Testing
SimObjectPaths.9=SimObjects\UT2 Aircraft
SimObjectPaths.10=SimObjects\Aircraft
SimObjectPaths.11=SimObjects\HJG
SimObjectPaths.12=SimObjects\CalClassic
All my Maltbys and Piper and Garwoods along with a couple others go in the Airplanes even though most are fundamentally FS2004 and shouldn't really be there but they are all superb and trusted models. Other than that this works for me well.

Now that's being greedy
It illustrates a good point though. You can organise stuff very well in FSX.. noting DG's caveat about aliased panels/sounds

You Guys!
Early in my FSX career, I renamed Airplanes to Aircraft, thereby eliminating everything but helicopters.
Now you have shaken off the shroud of mystery. Thank you.
Does this also speed up loading when you have a heap of aircraft?
