Hello Gents,
As usual i'm sorry if this is in the wrong place but it is Payware,
After the last 12 years or so i got FSX yesterday and have tried it out in the places i know well from F9 and what i have seen of the scenery i think its very good,
The only thing i can't get sorted is ATC, i get the box up and the whatever is said comes up with it, in F9 you could disable this but its not doing it in FSX, is this, How It Is? , i have made the box as small as possible and i have tried searching but i can't find an answer so i hope i can get one here,
Thanks,
Roger.

Hi Roger..
When you open FSX, go to the settings tab where you'll find an ATC section. If you don't wish to have ATC open when you start.. remove the tick from that option
EDIT: That's Settings/General

In addition to what Dave said you should only get the ATC 'chatter' box if you initiate contact yourself either by asking permission to taxi or take-off if on the ground or asking for radar tracking, directions or landing permission while in flight. You may get it if you tune your radio to the local airport or sector frequency too and it becomes 'active'.
I normally don't see it unless I want to and I usually never tune my com radio to the local airport unless I particularly feel like having the interaction (usually not) or I am testing radios on a project.

Thanks Chaps,
Well what's happening is when i click the box not to have "show ATC text" when i go back its ticked again, so i think there is something wrong as this is the same as F9 three boxes and i had the same box unticked so never saw the text show ,
Cheers,
Roger.

I have the 'Show ATC text' box checked but I still only see it when I call for it.
What OS are you running? Vista, Win 7?
If yes to either of the above have you made sure that the FSX.exe file is set to 'Run as Administrator?

Hi Larry,
I am running XP and yes i understand what you mean about only getting the box showing when you call ATC,
Now i know, its fine, i don't like it but there you go!!
The one thing i am really happy about is that as i mainly fly Helecopters its a lot better in FSX in fact its a shame F9 was a pain to fly them comfortably so that's a plus,
Thanks for the help to you both,
Roger.

Hi Roger
When I checked this yesterday, like Larry, I still had the ATC box ticked but never see it unless I call it up. Odd innit

You know where it is now anyway
I don't use FSX a great deal but when I do, it's mainly for carrier ops or flying helicopters. The helicopter flight model is as you say, much improved over FS9 but you'd expect it to be wouldn't you

You probably know this, Roger, but I would highly recommend Nemeth Designs FSX helicopters - I especially like the Dauphin, BO-105 and CH-53, but the whole range is good.
I also have some alphasim ones. They aren't in the same league as far as operability goes, but some of them are very nice, too - like their AH-1 series, Ka50, Helix and my favourite is their SH-2 Seasprite
You can get the nice alphasim Lynx for FS9 working in FSX, but the gauges are too old to work and replacing them with FSX compatible items is a royal pain. (I use my SimFlyer gauges as 2D pop-ups for the essential info on a second monitor). It's a shame because it's a nice helicopter to fly in FSX.
Whilst I'm at it, the Simshed freeware FS9 RAF & RN Wessex fly just great in FSX, even though the rotors are not quite up to FSX snuff. Think it's the alpha layer - but no matter, they are great

Not forgetting Ricks Sycamore in the Library which is native FSX

and if you like a challenge, try landing on the back of DG's HMS Fearless / Intrepid also available in the library. If you have anywhere in particular you'd like them to sail from, let me know and I'll do you an AI route for them.
