I took this screenie cos it reminds me of the final years of Southend's propliner era, and i have stacks of real photographs taken from the same spot. Oh the joys of making holes in the fence wide enough to get the camera through  :hide:

It's UK2000 scenery. A shame there's no Southend scenery available representing the 70's and 80's when RWY 33/15 was still being used by light traffic :((
I remember standing on the road bridge at 33 watching my first Pilatus Porter STOL land just before the numbers and stop just past them, i thought i was seeing things

The word Southend never fails to revive a memory of my first real journey on my motorbike...It was my sixteenth birthday present...I rode it from Southgate in North London to Southend and I considered that a great feat of endurance! I went to the Kursall and watched the motorbikes on the Wall of Death...I think the girl rider was Maureen Swift. My bike was a year older than me...It was a 1932 Federation and had a Villiers 175cc two stroke engine. The gear change was a gated lever on the side of the petrol tank...Memories

My memory of Southend as a kid was watching that poor man (Guy Fawkes?) being chopped in half by the axe!
Shame it all burnt down (repeatedly over the last 20 years).
