REX Essential

Hi Chaps,

I see there is a new version of REX for FSX / P3D users which works in both SIMs. If like me you already have REX2 for FSX, this download is free (although there is a one time licensing fee for use in P3D. But here is the Gotcha.... itt seems that to use the real world weather engine in this version, you have to sign up to a subscription service to get the data!

Has anyone else tried this yet and can confirm that real world weather is no longer free? :dunno:

Curiosity got the better of me and I've installed the new version. Safe to say the real weather is still free and the new version is superb! The mist / fog is really well done. If you do go for it and you have the existing version, open the existing version and restore your default files before uninstalling the old version and installing the new one.

The license for P3D is $4.95 USD so only a few quid

I'd become confused by the various updates for REX2 , so I deleted it and did a fresh download from the shop; REX Essentials is what you get now by default. This was about 4 weeks ago, and what with all the other fiddling and faffing about with other add-ons, I've barely got round to exploring it. However, I did a spot of flying last weekend, and it produced some nice effects - at least I think this is REX at work;- the front-end interface leaves the user wondering whether the settings have 'taken hold' before launching into FSX itself. Perhaps it's just me. 8)

I had REX and REX2. I say `had` because my download expired and after a rebuild I can no longer download. Support can't help and so have been ex REX for some while now.
When I had it I can sum it up as follows. Weather effects 10/10, user interface 3/10.
Like you say it leaves you wondering if something worked, sometimes things don't work and after a while you ignore all the options just set weather and fly!
Not you but the product.
Can't speak for this new version though so will give it a try.

That's a lovely atmospheric screenshot, Paul. Whatever's doing the clouds/mist, it's very good. Nice subject too.

Ian :)

Thank you Ian; clouds and mists courtesy of Rex Essentials ( I think...see my post above ), the A2A Fortress, and Orbx Pacific North West ( she took off from Boeing Field, Seattle, you see ). Pah! Who needs MS Flight for free, when you can spend hundreds of pounds making FSX look half decent, eh ? 8)
