Ah.. now there's a thing. Odd, unbelievable perhaps, but.. with the daughter down in Berkshire taking re-sits, I got her mountain bike out this afternoon.. pumped the tyres up and rode it across the common

Don't worry.. it's not pink and girlie, it's silver and a full-size blokes frame

Didn't take the camera with me as it had greyed over a bit but I promise I will next time

I've a handful of pics showing where I went taken a few months ago (before I moved here) so I'll post those when I can find the microSD adaptor for the card
Contrary to the weather forecast showing there would be 5mph winds today.. it's been one of the gustier days for a few days. I took the Champ out this morning but in all honesty, it wasn't a great deal of fun to fly. It either wanted to be at a thousand feet or on the deck

This more than anything was why I decided to dust the bike off instead
Nice shots Ian
EDIT: Here are 3. Hope you don't mind me adding them to your thread Ian. There are no tractors and no bike so I know they're not 'legal'

I've added this one to show what it looked like in the mid to late 1800's..
To the left of shot one and shot's 2 and 3 are where the iron works used to be. It was demolished in 1930.. thank goodness

I dunno if you can see it but the sticky up bit in the distance on shot 3 is the GPO tower at Pye Green, Cannock Chase. I may be brave enough one day to ride there again as I did in my yoof

Nice pics both of you.I cheated today! We took the car for a drive to Callander in the Trossachs.More cloud than previous days but still pleasantly warm and calm.A few pics here.
First one is Loch Venachar

Next two show the 'Sir Walter Scott' on Loch Katrine

SWMBO at a viewpoint between Callander and Aberfoyle

All in all a thoroughly enjoyable day.Incidently Ian,you look not unlike what I imagined you to be.I think visual misconception is more likely when you have heard someones voice but never seen them.

Help me out a bit, here, chaps. Wasn't it Mr David Booker who was reduced to speechlessness at my really really interesting post about a Concorde and a railway junction? And would I be wrong in thinking that the same Mr David Booker has just hijacked my post with pictures of where a 19th century iron works used to be but no longer is? Hmmm? In the words of the man whose words failed him: 'words fail me!'
Only kidding, Dave. It's good to see you out exploring in the fresh air. I told you that common would be good for cycling and I wonder if you haven't just caught the bug. I hope so - I can see you with your RC plane strapped to your back cycling over the moors for a day's adventuring. It does look really nice up there and thanks for the pictures. No, really, I mean it
Some more beautiful pictures from you, too Eric. What lovely countryside you have around you. You missed an opportunity there when the ayatollah was looking the other way. You could have slipped off to find that bevy of beauties you found last time!

Sorry Ian, I should have apologized for butting into your thread! I suppose I should have included a shot of the car to remain'legal here!
Dave,I use the Airband radio to get the wind speed/direction from EGPH,but I don't know if you would hear Birmingham' ATIS from where you are

Eric. Thread hijacking has evolved into a work of art here, mate! If it doesn't include sex, religion, politics and aircraft then it's a fail! I'm the worst one for taking them off at a tangent but most of us have lost sight of the original post by page two

The picture I have of you Ian is of a young man dressed in a fly suit.
Who's the bloke standing by the bike?

I
knew you'd be thrilled

I've wanted to get the bike out for ages.. it has so many gears, at least one must be suitable for an old duffer like me

Plan A was to get out this morning and ride down the village to get some bird seed for our 'feeder' on the yard but I ended up finishing most of 'The Official DSA Guide to Driving Buses and Coaches' instead
Yes Garry.. that particular stretch of canal will, I hope, be my water runway for the Icon A5 one day.

On the first shot I posted, you can see an iron bridge and that marks Pelsall Junction. If you turn left there, the stretch of canal is perfectly straight and goes for as long as the eye can see.. another good runway

Oh, beyond the iron bridge you can see a brick bridge with a building to the right. It's a pub (good to have a pub 'in shot') and where I had my wedding reception
That entire area is designated an area of natural beauty and is a nature reserve. I showed those shots to the girls at the pub before we left and one of them said 'but I thought you lived in the Midlands'
