What appears at 00:24 I don't know...

...my question is are aircraft designs copyrighted so you can't use a real one or were the graphics guys at Crossrail being lazy? (Or both). If they were going to mostly copy a design, why can they not go the whole hog? I seriously doubt it would have been any more work...

Sorry for the small rant but this one really annoyed me-it ruined one of my favourite jets. :hide:

are aircraft designs copyrighted
I believe any designed object is copyrighted, how that's enforced is up to the holder of the copyright, there is a time limit as well but that varies. If a copyright holder fails to enforce their rights then it can become null and void, hence some rather over enthusiastic copyright cases.

As to what's going on in the video as it was mostly stylised I doubt they were worrying about accuracy, the 5 ton trucks going over the bridge were a bit slap dash as well.

It's probably just a quick generic aeroplane

Why go to all the trouble of copying a real one just for that.

It's something that's always been done in advertising.

Thank you for clarifying that Skippybing.

@Garry
It may be a quick mock-up, but considering the fact that the only big difference between it and the "real" plane is the location of the engines, I doubt it was done for the purpose of saving trouble-looking at the design they either had a picture of a VC-10 or an Il-62 to go from, so why not just put the engines on the tail? Lets face it, it isn't exactly what you would call a "generic" design. It wouldn't have made it any slower to make, considering they have already modelled the engines themselves in that close layout you get on the real jets. I think the only thing that fully makes sense is the copyright :dunno: .

They may well have just got the model from a third party, e.g. Turbo Squid rather than modelling it themselves. Looking at it the train may be the only thing they've actually done themselves!
