Not the birthday gift I wanted

First - many thanks for the birthday greetings! Depending on my talk with the insurance adjuster, I may be getting a new motor to "celebrate." The trusty Mini was involved in a bit of a prang yesterday.

The person behind stated they momentarily diverted attention, and didn't see traffic (including me) had come to a stop. They swerved, and had they managed another foot or so, all would have been well. As it was, there was a glancing blow which spun the Mini 90 degrees anti-clockwise into the rear of the SUV in front.
Never thought I'd actually witness an airbag deployment, but the curtain airbag on the passenger side popped and it was quite the show. Not sure I need to see that again. Had it not been for the car ahead, it might not have been a big deal; as it is, the angle on the rear wheel is a bit disconcerting. I may fight to have it written off if it's close.
I walked away unscathed, just a bit of soreness today as one would expect. Say what you will about the BMW Mini, the passenger cell held remarkably well.
