Any 'Twitchers' on here to tell me if this sighting is an early one for this species?

After an awful day of wet weather with cold winds, we took the dog out for a walk at 5:30pm and saw three Swallows zooming up and down the river displaying their deep blue plumage as they flew under the bridge just above the water...it was a surprise to see these colourful visitors so early in the year and on such a bad weather day too! they say that 'One Swallow does not make a Summer'...well there were three so does that mean Summer has finaly arrived?,,,,let's hope so!

Until a few years ago the local paper would report when the first Cuckoo was heard...that was taken as a sign that things were well on the way.

I don't know when it happened last year but our first summer weather, and this is no joke, was in early October.

This year...there seems no end to the rain sleet and hail showers :'(

 Always heard but seldom seen.

One of those qute little things left over from a bygonne era when ordinary folk had real lives.

Nowadays they visit America..which makes them cuckoo :hide:

Indeed Garry...the most reliable indicator of the arrival of Summer is that the rain is a tad warmer!

As to a photo of the swallows, well I can but try, I will take a walk along the same spot tomorrow to see if they are there again but they sure are fast flying little demons!
