I was in my local model shop on Friday Peter and they had an ICON A5 for sale. Two things.. I'm able to resist such things (with some effort, granted) these days and secondly, I'd not have been able to carry it on the bike

Been looking at the Icon model Dave. I think its about 200 smackers. It's made by Parkzone. Same people that make my next plane. The Radian. Sorry to digress!

What sort of model was it Dave?...flying? scale?

My niece in the USA is keen to buy a real one...It is about $168000. I would love to fly in one of those

As Eddie said, it's a Park Zone model and I think it can be got for rather less than the quoted $ price on the official site. I've a feeling it was just short of £200 in the shop I was in but I don't know if that was for the 'full' setup (model and 4-channel controller) or just for the model itself (an option as it's Bind n Fly). Check out the videos. The top one is around 1:45min but the bottom is over 7mins and shows it to be as good on the water as it is in the air.
Beware if you're thinking of buying one and see an alternative for less than $40. That particular one doesn't fly very well and won't takeoff from water.. apparently

Its a quite a new model and rather unique as water based RC aircraft of this style are quite rare.

Amazing bit of kit but far too advanced for my level of skill.

It looks quite easy to operate Eddie but that's the point isn't it. The chaps they have flying these demo's are skilled RC pilots.. not dimwits like me

I'd certainly be up for one. I've plenty of water and I reckon it'd land pretty well on grass without the landing gear on. You may have guessed, I want one

I think landing on grass would be an issue Dave. Especially with it being designed for runways or water.

Grass is great for belly landers or gliders but can act like an arrestor wire as well.

I think a wing strike would be on the cards on all but the shortest lawns.

Certainly would be a step up Dave.

With one of those you can guarantee a much higher standard and more expensive crash

Would be great fun though

Here is an interesting statistical analysis:-

Totalling the views of this post on the eight sites where I posted my video yesterday = 264 views.

Totalling the number of people that viewed my video to the end = 42 (if you don't get to the end then you don't get counted).

That means that only 16% of people that view my post actually view my video

I guess that means I'm a boring old fart!
