The only thing really "new" about the concept is the plane, although in all honesty, it's just a scaled up White Knight 2. The Falcon rocket is proving itself quickly to be reliable as is the Dragon pod, so all they're doing is transitioning from a vertical launch to a air launch, something both SpaceX and Scaled have experience with and something to compete with Orbital on being able to launch a full-sized vehicle versus Orbital only being able to launch micro-Sats with it's Pegasus.

To me...it looks like something the Germans might have come up with during WWII
But yes...knocking up something out of existing parts is nothing new in concept
My main surprise is just how old fashioned it looks

Is it me, or does that look a bit Spruce Goose-ish ?
