Door to Door Service

Just been perusing Northeast's Winter 1971/72 timetable,
On flights to Heathrow from Leeds or Newcastle a service was offered whereby a passenger could be met at the foot of the aircraft steps by a chauffeur driven Jag and driven to London's west end.
Anyone like to hazard a guess as to the charge?
cheers
Fraser

The charge is clearly: "Having a jolly time of it whilst others can't afford to put breakfast on the table."
BTW, here in Australia, we have a beer called West End, maybe this offer could be classified as driving people to drink?
The cost? I cheated by looking it up on Wonkypedia, it's 432.47 pounds, though Wonky has been known to contain wild guesses from time to time.

No wiki is miles out.
The charge was a princely £1.50 new pence. Given that the fare from Newcastle to Heathrow was £10.50, it was still quite reasonable.
cheers

£1.50
It doesn't sound a lot does it but when you translate it to 30bob, it was quite extravagant. I was trying to explain to SWMBO only last night what was lost when decimalisation came in as it happens. What you could buy with pennies and shillings was far greater than you can now and this, fortunately, has been forgotten

There's no such thing as a free lunch, Fraser. Somewhere, someone paid.

Good job it wasn't charged by the hour

£1.50 is quite a bit considering petrol was 35p a gallon, so about the cost of four gallons or about £26+ today
Echoing what DB said, 35p sounds cheap for a gallon but 7 shillings was exorbitant

Hi Fraser,
That was "wonky", not "wiki". If you ever discover anything resembling accuracy on Wonkypedia, please report this fact immediately to administration at Airspeed's Flying Visit site!
