Morning chaps.
I hope you all had a nice Christmas.

Two questions;

1) How would I alter the .cfg file to make trim adjustments less severe. I have a few aircraft that I just cannot trim. One flick of the switch makes a big change in trim. (Well, not BIG but not tiny and precise)

And 2) does anyone know if it's possible to get FSNavigator still? I had it a while ago but no longer (long story, converted to FSX, cleared a load off stuff off the PC, I know, I know, I should have known better, I'm back on FS9 now!) I don't seem to be able to get it.
I know support ended a while ago but whilst you can get the software via freeware, it still requires a key after 28 days.

It does depend upon the model & I find that one sometimes has to play with the .air file as well.
One must check also what the Pilots Notes say, for example my Proctors notes say that one should put 1/2 (of the range) elevator trim Nose Down before take off if on full load.
Trim coarseness can be a simple function of reducing the elevator trim effectiveness, but then one can run out of travel with gear & flaps down or with changing C of G due to passenger & fuel loads. One can also change the amount of trim available - increasing the range can reduce the sensitivity.
In the .cfg file there is also the tailplane incidence that one can adjust.

A lot of models have the thrust lines and/or the CofG in the wrong place which can make them impossible to trim correctly

For the trim sensitivity I'd suggest starting with this parameter in the aircraft.cfg [flight_tuning] section...
elevator_trim_effectiveness=

If you are lucky, this will be currently set as '1.0'.
If so, you should be able to make elevator trim twice as fine by just setting that as '0.5' instead.
I'm not sure if it uses values below 0.5 or not though. If it does, you could go as low as you want.

These tuning parameters work as multipliers for other settings (in aircraft.cfg & the .air file).
So if the 'real' settings are wildly out, tweaking these parameters may only make it slightly less bad.
