Kids growing up with technology

Just saw this clip on BBC Click this morning. The article was about kids growing up with technology and whether it might be better to let them loose on your iPad instead of brightly coloured kids' toy computers. The clip shows a one year old, who intuitively uses the touchscreen on an iPad, confronted by a magazine - which doesn't work

I saw that Click show yesteday on BBC World News. Interesting because I am looking forward to my grandson's introduction to technology and how he will react to it. He is nearly 7 months old so it will be a while before I can regale him with stories of how things were when I was growing up - no iPhones, iPads and so on.

Its a bit like a few of my younger mates who are 17-18 who can't live without their smatphones on them with their twitter accounts and all that bollocks.
I don't know how to use half the stuff on my phone.

...

Oh shit, when did I turn into my Dad?

Even lizards know how to use iPads. Here's one playing a game.

I wondered whether it was an age thing about me not wanting/needing a smartphone which allows you to have all your music, contacts, etc wherever you are.

Then I realised that since I work from home, I have all that information and entertainment on my PC or other kit and a landline phone. I don't need any of that when I go out to a restaurant/shopping so no need for a smartphone, just a cheap mobile for making phone calls! Saved myself a bundle of money ;)

It's a bit like being overcome with carbon monoxide really .... No one's ever been able to track the change down to a specific moment.

*-) :dunno:

When I was growing up, it was widely accepted that persons of my age (probably about 7 at the time) knew better than anyone how to program the VCR. Now, I too, like Mr Jonesey (probably worse actually) am a bit of a technophobe. I don't have an iPhone, or Googlephone or whatever, nor do I want one, and I don't have a twitter account!
