How many VC10s left and for how long?

I'm sure someone here will be able to answer this for me

I've never managed to see a '10 flying "up close" and living abroad makes it even more difficult now. I'm just wondering if there might be any obvious opportunities next Summer.

I think it's 2013, but who's to say the Government might cut them sooner
Your best bet is a visist to Brize
They can be illusive
I last saw one at LHR in 1993

There are about a dozen left. No doubt at least two more will go during next year, but as Garry says (and as has been the pattern in recent years) they could all go during then, and civvie charters could well fill the stop gap until the Voyagers arrive.
Just hope I'm there at the end to see a final three-ship flypast, and one hopefully re-painted in BOAC or Transport Command.

Thanks chaps. Hmmm.... will have to plan some kind of trip to the UK next year in which I can pass through Oxfordshire methinks! Photos on the thread are great and I can almost "hear" it
Nice suggestion for the BOAC livery although I'm not sure a) the RAF would go a bundle on that idea and b) of the remaning airframes, what is the airline history? Are some not ex-Gulf air / East African or any other airlines?

Hi Toby..
I think all that remain beside the MkC's are ex EAA K3's and BA K4's.. the latter 2 Supers. Jelle (Archer) will have a full history of what's left over at is site

Hello all,
There are 4 K3s, a K4 and a spattering of C1Ks left... one went to be chopped today and another tomorrow (both C1s) and another goes soon! The out-of-service date is early 2013 sadly!
Spent 1:15 in one today though, first flight since May

Hi Guys,
The table at the bottom of this page is kept up to date as much as I can, I've now added a total at the bottom too:
http://www.vc10.net/History/RAFVC10s.html
There are 10 airframes left in service now, but XV101 is scheduled to retire on 20th December:
Code: Select all
Reg ex-
XR808 'R' C1 K n/a 101sq Active
XV101 'S' C1 K n/a 101sq Active
XV104 'U' C1 K n/a 101sq Active
XV106 'W' C1 K n/a 101sq Active
XV108 'Y' C1 K n/a 101sq Active
ZA147 'F' K3 EAA 101sq Active
ZA148 'G' K3 EAA 101sq Active
ZA149 'H' K3 EAA 101sq Active
ZA150 'J' K3 EAA 101sq Active
ZD241 'N' K4 BOAC 101sq Active
Total: 10 active VC10s
So there's one ex-BOAC Super still flying around!
