"Apparently, Phyllis has acute angina," says Bill. "Has she?" replies Jack, "and from what I've seen, her breasts are in good shape for her age, too!"

I don't think I'm quite elderly yet but I'm heading that way and by coincidence, off to the hospital this afternoon for a pre-op which will eventually sort (I hope) my hearing out

Good luck with that, Dave, had ear trouble most of my life, but nothing needing surgery. I'll be thinking of you.

I have trouble with my hearing, but they won't give me a hearing aid. Instead they sent me off for hearing therapy. No word of a lie. Whilst I was there I received a lot of advice on how to deal with it. Apparently if you lose your hearing at the top end of the range like me you can no longer hear consonants properly. We all can automatically lip read naturally to a certain extent so we compensate if we can see the person talking.I did receive some advice that I thought was very good, but, if I could practice it very dangerous if I did. The therapist said if my wife shouts at me from the next room ignore her and make her come and speak me face to face. Then I could lip read. I think I will pass on that one.

I have poor eyesight and sometimes in the noisy factory someone would speak while I was cleaning my glasses.

I'd ask them to hang on as I couldn't hear them properly without my glasses on ...because as you say you partially lip read

The amazing thing about my therapist was she was deaf. But then you know she knows what she was talking about. I went with an air of scepticism and a thinking what a joke, hearing therapy. I was impressed by this girl.

My team leader seems to get a bit cross when I ignore him when he tries to tell me/ ask me something. I wonder when the penny will drop that mumbling to somebody stood next to a very noisy machine with ear defenders on is not the best idea...

My hearing is a bit knackered already, got slight tinnitus.

All went well yesterday and I'm pronounced fit enough to go under the knife The biggest irony of yesterdays little exercise was the nurse who did my pre-op. She wasn't from these parts but had good command of the language.. when I could actually hear what she was saying. She must be one of the most quietly spoken people I've ever met.. just what you need in an audiology department where all of the inmates will be mutton to some degree After the first couple of questions, it became obvious I was struggling (obvious to me anyway) so I sat next to her and read the questions myself.. out loud so she knew which one I was reading So much for my good ear
Had my hearing tested prior to this visit and they found I have 'moderate' loss in both ears. Moderate isn't bad (I thought) except that it falls nicely into the frequency range of speech!

I found out today that there's something rattling inside one of the air vents in my dads Skoda.. not that I can hear it, my sister pointed it out. Everyone hears it but me so who cares It's not loud you understand.. probably something dropped in there but it's just at the right frequency to be 'silent' to me
