I bet it 'focused' the pilots ;) The beams on that roof look new and yet she had her tiles blown off. Wonder if it was a bit of shoddy work? *-)

Fortunately, no such winds down in Berkshire. Anything that strong would have blown the pub away not just taken it's roof off

Exactly.. just take the prop straps off.. let the props windmill.. add bangers, fuel and away you go

Like all 'mighty' organisations, Brooklands has certain legislation and rules in place so that we conform to H&S. One bod is nominated as prop spinner.. he's not just a chap dragged in off the streets but a bonafide pilot with experience of such things. This fits perfectly with the likes of the Demoiselle, Camel.. aircraft of that ilk but we were a little perplexed to see he'd been assigned to the Vanguard. Can you imagine trying to hand-throw a Vanguard engine.. and your frustration at not being able to *-) Needless to say, that 'motion' went into file13 and was never spoken of again ;)

If I was still married I might have had a solution...let me come home late and stand SWMBO in fornt of the props whist she "mentions it" :worried:

I have pics taken at Cherbourg of a line of bods holding a rope attached to a Superfreighter prop blade about to perform a U/S start motor fire up of the starboard Hercules. :-O

My thought is..if the rope fails to drop off the end as it fires...would you live long enough to realise that wrapping it round your waist four time to get a better grip was not a good idea?? :worried: 8)

Seriously don't know how many there were as the line bleeds off the side of the pic.

Apparently it worked and was often done.
