Great story. Gawd knows what it must be like down the pit in high summer. I hope she is saved.

When she took her first coin the World was completely different to how it is now.......virtually nothing the same and in many cases several generations of change.
She even predates Imperial Airways
Really worth saving as especially as this is no museum piece restored plaything but a working vessel which in itself is a tribute to the builders and the thousands of hands of all trades that have kept her running.

Just read the article again and noticed M.V. ( Motor Vessel ) Liemba is then referred to as a steamer.

No, she's called M.V. and is referred to as a steamer in the article. She's either one or the other.
Quote: Ships don't come with much more historical ballast than the MV Liemba. The steamer still shudders and belches its way across Lake Tanganyika

Not read it again...yet
Just wondered if she was originally a steamship.

Well if she has been re-engined to use a diesel engine, replacing her original boiler and steam reciprocating engine, then she is no longer a steamer. If she still has her original steam machinery, yes she is a steamer, but she is not an M.V. ( motor vessel ).
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to my weekly Pedants Anonymous meeting. ( Of course, I am no longer anonymous because I've just said I am a member and you know my name, and therefore technically can no longer be a member. )
