Trying to get this bat file to work

Hi,

I tuned my FSX cfg from this site:
http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html
(and yes, it actually did help :))

Now it suggests I download and install an external FPS limiter from:
http://www.venetubo.com/fsx/FPS_Limiter_0.2.rar
Well, I installed it (no, the file downloaded above does not contain any viruses of any kind for those who are worried about such things)

What I presume I need to do (unfortunately the readme is in German, so it isn't much help to me) is to open the FPS_Limiter_GUI file and type in the path to the FSX.exe, then let it do its thing and create a bat file.

The problem is, if I try to use the bat file, two of those black window things come up and then vanish very quickly, and nothing else happens....

What must I do to get it working? I've tried running it as administrator, but I cannot tick the box in properties saying "run this program as administrator" for some reason...

I'm using a W7 64 bit OS, does this have something to do with it?

The problem is I'm not very computer literate, so I could be doing everything wrong here :help:

You might need to turn off User Access Control (UAC) in control panel.

I had no problems running it when I used it and I think I had UAC off before then.

Type UAC in the search box of the Control Panel Window, click on the result and then slide the slider to the bottom so it says "Never notify".

Have you tried creating a new FSX.cfg without vsync to see if it is needed or not? Plus have you tried the Conservative option? I did quite a few different combinations before I settled on the preferred one.

Yes, I did try it without Vsync and I got a lot of tears, so yeah, I think I need that ;)

I tried the conservative option as well, and it helped, but not so much.

Well, I turned off UAC and it seems to be starting up now, so thats good at least  Thanks

I wonder though, how do I make the shortcut for it have the FSX icon? I'd rather have that on my desktop than the gear symbol thing.

Try opening the bat file in notepad (right click & select "edit"). Mine looks like this:

Code: Select all

start D:\"FPS_Limiter_0.2\"FPS_Limiter.exe /r:D3D9 /f:30 /x:OFF /l:OFF "D:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\fsx.exe
The first part be the path to the limiter. The f:30 is the frame rate. Then there is the path to FSX. Check your paths are correct. You can manually edit them if neccessary.

EDIT: too slow  Glad it's working

Right click the shortcut & select "properties" You can change the icon from there. Select your FSX.exe from the pop-up

Not quite, the one Dave is doing will have something fixed underneath  Lets just say it won't be going anywhere fast.

It will all become clear when it is finished :agree:
