My old screen on my desktop has just given up the ghost after four years. I have ordered a new screen. I have been told all the new screens are of widescreen format. Will this affect my simming view.

Yes, you'll see more. :)

You will have all widescreen resolution settings on the settings screen.

Hi Simon :hello:

Yes....it should distort your 2D nicely

I curse the day wide screens were invented........horrid things

If I could still buy CRT's of the old format I'd throw this modern crap straight out :)

I find modern screens over sharp and of course you have to look at exactly the right angle and I don't see life as a wide slot.

The same colour varies as you look down the screen .murder for trying to paint liveries properly.

Hi Darren :hello:

I don't see more in the 2D...it just pulls it out into widescreen with resultant distortion.

Sounds like a poor quality/old screen. Most TFTs these days have a massive viewing angle, it might be worth popping down to PC world and having a look at what they've got.

On seeing life as a wide slot, I believe that's why movies are a widescreen format rather than square as you actually perceive things in the horizontal more than the vertical. Not that your eyes necessarily do, but a lot of what you see is actually due to additional processing in your brain.

Mind you I'm missing the extra heat CRTs generated at the moment!

Just a thought, it might be possible to alter the aspect ration of the panels in the panel.cfg to force them to be square. I know you can do it in FSX but I'm not 100% sure about FS9, the only downside is you'll get gaps at the edge of the screen but possibly less annoying than having ovoid gauges!

My screenis a year old and is much better than the TV bought a few weeks ago as far as veiwng angle goes

It's not that bad but it is there and a problem for reproduction.the varience is there as is the distortion on certain things.

We do have have PC World and the screens start at about £130 which is about £130 more than I have to spend

I hate widescreen movies too to the point where I just won't watch them........ :)

Hi Skippy

Its pulling the 2D across sp the dials distort.....ther is no way around tha unless the whole thing was enlarged and then trimmed on the verticle which actually needs more as it is

The old 5x4 format was fine......don't want square, and don't want widecreen.

I note that iFly and Dreamfleet supply their models with two versions of each livery...One "Normal Screen" and the other "Wide Screen" those are I think 4x3 and 16x9.
