WIP...

A work in progress...

This HD YouTube video should be viewed in HiRes 1080 and full screen mode and it runs for just 1minute.

Naturally the timing will be adjusted to avoid the Baron! :fly:

Talk about friendly fire!!

The Air Force obviously think they take precedence over anyone and anything :wasntme: :-O

I think you're going to have to have a word with the CO about their behaviour, Peter, and suggest the RAF might do a better job of defending McLeland Field :agree:

Yes, very impressive!

As regards timing and the Baron, I'd say the degree of shock that the Baron pilot would experience is probably just right.

Your computer / graphics set-up seems to run far more smoothly than mine -- do you have its specification listed somewhere, please?

Yes Myles,

It is a problem with the Air Force and ATC...I have to set it up so that the F16s are not instructed to do ANYTHING by ATC (otherwise the formations will be destroyed by radar separation and the local controller will be sending most of them around again). So basically with ATC NOT controlling the F16s I have to arrange for the six ship formations to arrive when the runway is briefly empty of civvy traffic. I'm leaving this little detail till after I get it working to my satisfaction. It is a very fussy procedure but I will get there in the end :)

Heh, the Baron pilot isn't fazed at all. Stuff like that goes on all the time. Its just normally an inverted Bonanza or an SF260

That also looks very impressive. I have a pretty old PC that nonetheless runs around 2 GHz, has 2 GB memory and uses a GeForce graphics card, but, unless I'm on an island and/or in the middle of nowhere, it struggles to animate movement even with the display settings around Low / Medium Low (on a single 1152 by 864 screen). I almost exclusively use the virtual cockpit, though (it's FSX), so that's probably the reason.

Incidentally, I visited your website and, amongst everything else, was interested to see you flew the Vampire. I don't know how large the contingent of Vampire pilots came to be, but the organist of a church near where my parents live (Truro, Cornwall) once told me he flew the Vampire, so perhaps you know/knew (of) him. Right now, though, I can only recall his first name: Norman.

Thanks for the information,
David K

David K,

Thanks for visiting my website...I didn't fly the Vampire very much as almost immediately after joining my first squadron, we re-equipped with Venoms...I do have a lot of hours on them but the Venom was hardly used in the UK and all my Venom hours were 266 squadron, 2nd TAF, Germany and 208 squadron in Kenya. I'm afraid I can't recall a "Norman" in my travels till I got to BEA :)

Edit. Looking through the London Gazette for 20th November 1951, I see I trained with a David Norman Mackreill and I see from his service number that he was like me, ex Air Training Corps. I'm afraid I can't recall his face...but it was a long time ago :)

Vampires

Post by DavidK »

"Mackreill" doesn't ring any bells here, but my parents would be the people to ask. According to Wikipedia, over 3,000 Vampires were built (seems believable as it is referenced there) so I guess there were many more Vampire pilots than I imagined.

Anyhow, thanks for doing your bit to protect us.

Best wishes,
David K
