Hi Fellow Pop-pickers
Still coming down from seeing Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood at the Wembley Arena last night (a few hours ago.. Fri 21st)

The first thing I noticed both outside and inside the arena was the complete absence of kids! My daughter (who bought the tickets as a birthday present - for me I might add) was probably the youngest there at 17 going on 27. EVERYONE was old!
Helen took a few shots with her piddly little camera so I'll see how they came out and might post one or two but for those with a musical bint.. a few of the songs they played included 'Presence of the Lord', 'Can't find my way home', 'After Midnight', 'Forever Man, 'Voodoo Chile', 'Layla' and 'Cocaine'. Oddly enough.. when they played Cocaine, I thought of Joe (airboatr).. sri mate
The Triumph Daytona 955i has now managed something the ZX9R never did in that it's been to an Eric Clapton concert (though she did have to stay outside)
Off to bed now with 'Forever Man' still bouncing around my rather tired head

Glad you had a great time
You'll be buzzin' for days
Pity Helen couldn't get a backstage pass, as you could have got your zimmer frame autographed

Y E S.. an autographed zimmer!

Tickets down the front (which included a pass to the Green Room) were around the £300 mark so that was never going to be on the cards. The tickets we had (which almost put us in another county) were £75 a throw and that's more than I'd have paid! As it was, a brief visit to the 'Official Merchandise' stand.. 3 T-Shirts and a programme left us £72 lighter so all in all.. a pretty hefty night out as far as dosh was concerned.
Anyway.. here are a couple of shots Helen took with her little digital. Wish I'd have taken mine now but there you go..
Not sure where Eric came from but he said it took him 3 hours to get there by car (stuck in traffic). He should have gone by motorbike!

He was probably stuck behind some old codgers going to a rock concert
Indeed......it does
seem expensive........but what the heck for a night out you'll always remember

True mate

Had a lean year for airshows last year (not a single one!) and the prospects for this year are equally grim
Nip over to
www.ericclapton.com for a selection of vids/odd's and sods plus there's a review of last nights gig linked to the EC fan club

Bet you felt young again Dave, and thats more than a birthday present could ever hope to bring an old man. ( loosely speaking )
Thats a good daughter you have

Sounds like you had a good time Dave.
Did Helen enjoy it as well?

I know what you mean Joe
Yup.. she's a good girl even if I do say so myself. The gig was all her idea and she paid for the tickets herself

She's had an association with Eric Clapton since before birth as me and SWMBO saw him twice while the 'good lady' was pregnant so it was a treat for her to finally see him having had years of us telling her just how good he is
TBH.. compared to quite a large proportion of the audience, I DID feel a young pup. I remember seeing one old bloke.. easily in his 70's.. perhaps older giving it 'large' dancing in the aisle with his hands in the air!

Surreal.. quite surreal

It's the first time I've been to Wembley Arena and it's not a bad venue. OK.. it's not got the acoustics of the RAH but it's not bad. Polite, friendly and helpful staff.. it came as a shock!
DG.. yes mate, Helen loved it. She felt young and among the masses.. she was!

A lot of what was played came from the 'Blind Faith' era but she got the acoustic version of Layla and was as happy as a dog with two tails

Funny.. this is the first time I've been out with her on my own for a few years and she seems quite grown up (which I guess she is coming 18). A great time was had by all
