I think the fireman walking through the steam is the most evocative for me.

he recently had all his guts removed for a cleaning , the old fashioned way on rocks and washboard and dumped in a cold creek for a rinse
-then hung on a clothsline to sun dry . and then all stuff back in him. .....And he never even let out a peep
