Time sure flies when you're having fun. No sand and surf this week, we're off to the high desert of the western US...Reno! Our routing takes us from Dallas to Amarillo Texas, Denver Colorado, Reno Nevada, Phoenix Arizona, El Paso Texas, and back home to Dallas. There's something for everyone this week; classic automobiles for auto fans, winglets for Joe, and white-walled tires for our Dave. Off we go!

First stop Amarillo Texas. Majestic, isn't it? 8)
Image
The airport in Amarillo is named after Amarillo's favorite son Rick Husband. Rick was commander of the ill-fated Space Shuttle Columbia when it was destroyed over north Texas a few years back. Rest in peace, Rick. :(
Image
Denver International with their unique peaks on top of the terminals.
Image
The interior of their terminals are kinda unique too.
Image
Neat!
Image
With Denver now behind us we're streaking along over the Rocky Mountains of western Colorado.
Image
The scenery is definitely changing as we cross over into the state of Utah, now.
Image
Lovely!
Image
Looks more like Mars than Utah. :worried:
Image
Reno Nevada and our main destination today, the National Automobile Museum. Should be fun!

Time to start heading for home. Taxying in at Phoenix's Sky Harbor International Airport after a short flight from Reno.
Image
Stretching our legs before heading to El Paso Texas.
Image
Bon appetit! ;)
Image
El Paso, here we come.
Image
Slept right through our brief stop in El Paso but woke up just in time to deplane in Dallas. See you next week. :)

Thanks for looking. :)

Is that museum in Reno what used to be Harrahs motor museum?
I remember going there years ago and there was about
ten Duesenbergs sat in a row which was pretty impressive.

Tks for posting Brian  Being a travel photographer for Southwest seems to be a mighty fine job! ;)

What's the story behind the rather unusual interior design at Denver?? *-)

Yes. Its official name is The William F Harrah National Automobile Museum. It's an amazing museum!

 Sometimes I feel like a travel photographer for the company. I think the interior design of the terminal is supposed to be one of the airport blending in with nature. The peaks on the top of one of the terminals are supposed to represent the peaks of the Rocky Mountains located nearby. There's also a lot of natural building materials used in the construction of the airport. The airport also generates its own solar electricity to power its underground rail system. Definitely one of the more "green" airports here in the US.

do you know I just watched an old episode of Airline
when the Capitan was retiring and they loadup the plane with ballons
I noticed they didn't spare any expence. by not filling the ballons with helium to save on fuel.

good set of photos and story line

btw , I'm from northern Indiana
not far from where all the greats where built (this side of the world ;) )

over the years I've managed to visit the areaa
my high school metals shop teacher is a curator for some of the collection
one of those odd out from the rest in that he drove a 68 jag , red . and had a studabacker he drove , when it would run
all the other teachers were boring in comparison -
I was lucky enough to have him ask me to be shop assistant in my second year shop 2 so I have two classes in the machine shop
with all those lathes and end mills , shapers , surface grinders ...... 8) welders

:OT:

Cheers Brian ;) I presumed the design was trying to 'say' something but couldn't decide if it were a diorama from 'Planet of the Apes' or something more meaningful

Southwest would/should be proud of your shots mate. Hardly a one that doesn't show the company logo/name be it on a winglet or somewhere more subliminal on a drinks napkin :worried: ;) You keep 'em coming Brian  Many of us here have never seen those places and are unlikely to so your continuing travelogs are always interesting
