Dave
Thanks for the help on the previous issues.
I have downloaded the Vanguard into FSX and retained a 952 and a 953. I have tried to do what you say with the FSX Panels.
A few problems.
1. When I select Change Aircraft, although Vickers comes up as an option and the Vanguard is the only Vickers I have in there at the moment, , no Vanguard appears. if I click on the blank Vickers page, I get the 953.
2. When I select the Autopilot Icon, I get the SEP 2 autopilot panel but when I press the power switch, although it moves momentarily, it goes off again and I get 2 beeps of the disconnect warning. The Engines, Generators and Inverters are on.

Hi John..
You're keeping me feeling young!
Ok.. first things first. You're only seeing a blank/greyed out aircraft because none of the paints have thumbnails associated with them. I don't have the Vanguard in FSX so again.. I'm shooting in the dark a bit here. For FS9 (if you're using the VA Vanguard pack from here).. you will see Vickers Vanguard Merchantman and Vickers Vanguard under 'Vickers' when you select an aircraft.
A few minutes later..
Right.. I've dragged the Vanguard VA pack into FSX and I see the greyed out silouette for each of my Vanguard paints (and there are many.. believe me)

I don't know where you got your Vanguard from but it would probably be better if you downloaded the VA packs from our library (here.. not CBF) as these are the most complete and up to date set.
I'll look at the AP when I've finished work (sometime after 2pm) but it has to be powered on first. When you get the yellow ready light.. it's ready to be engaged

Give me an hour.

Hi John
Having thrown the Vanguard into FSX earlier.. I've just taken it for a whizz around Anglesey and I'm pleased to report that everything worked just fine. If anything, I found the old girl rather more stable which is no bad thing.
Assuming that you are using the VA Vanguard packs.. are you making sure you have the AP master switches on (these are on the Radio Panel.. 3 up/down switches on the bottom).? I found the AP took quite a few seconds to go to 'Ready' after being powered up but once lit, pushing the green 'Engage' button (top centre of the AP).. all AP functions worked fine.. confirmed by the annunciator panel lights
The SEP2 system looks like a complete dogs ear to operate but pilots 'au fait' with it were happy. Smiths proved that under certain circumstances (poor vis being one such instance) pilots returned much better results than with the more traditional systems

Once you realise it was designed for point to point navigation (waypoints didn't exist) it all makes rather more sense
So there you go mate. If you don't have the latest version.. get it from here. It all works pleasingly well in FSX

Thanks Dave, I had missed the Autopilot Master Switch!
I was using the CBFS Vanguard. I downloaded Pack 1 and the Panel. I take it Packs 2 and 3 are just more paint jobs?
Both Flight Systems (952 and 951) are now working perfectly (an ILS on each at Prestwick).
The Smiths flight system IS a dog's ear. I have used it on the ETPS Argosy. It is fine when coupled to the autopilot but try doing a manual hold and ADF approach!!
I have now put thumbnails in and all is well. However, I usually get a black and white image if there is no thumbnail, but yesterday I was getting nothing. Never mind, all is well now.
I'm glad I am keeping you on your toes.
Thanks again
John

Hi John
Yup.. I guessed it was the masters
The other packs are additional paints which cover the original 20 aircraft BEA/BA had plus variations on a theme
