Vista and IE8

Not sure how many people use the above combo, but a question anyway.. (I've stopped using Firefox as I was having some web issues with it)...
Anyway, I have two PCs and a laptop running Vista and IE8. Generally when on the web I have about 8 tabs open for quick browsing. On PC1 (or on the laptop) if I open IE, all the tabs automatically reopen which is handy. For some reason, PC2 does not do this despite running the same setup, and I cannot seem to find any answer or option to select to make this happen (In fact on PC1, it just seemed to decide to open the multiple tabs on it's own - if I changed anything I don't remember doing so!).
PC1 is currently in use elsewhere for a bit, and it's annoying having to continually open various tabs on PC2 - so if anyone has any ideas, much appreciated!
If I select 'reopen last browsing session' all that will appear is one page off whatever happened to be the last page looked at in that session.
Even more annoying is that if I log on to PC1 when I can, it will immediately open all my tabs despite it being weeks since I used it!

Hi Jim
This won't help you at all but the thrust of what I see isn't too far removed from your problem. Since I started using IE7 on this pc fulltime (I had issues playing certain types of videos using Firefox when referenced via a link.. eg, a link from here) I often get 'Do you want to close all tabs' when I've only ever had one open

It happens here more than anywhere else (probably because I'm here more often) but it's a windup. The 'second' tab is more often than not a members page (the same as when you click on a members name and it opens their page showing email address e t c). WTF this is happening I've no idea and it doesn't happen all the time. However, it only happens with IE7 (though I reckon it'd probably happen in IE8 too if I still had that installed)
There! While it doesn't answer your problem.. you now know you're not alone with IE

Worth pointing out (again) this doesn't happen with Firefox and never happened with IE6
Happy Easter

HI Dave
Yup - it's odd.... What's more, I don't get a new tab when I click a link - I get a new browser session completely! With IE8 I only get the 'close all' if there's more than one tab open tho... HOWEVER...... I've just worked something out...
Say you have 4 tabs open. On tab 1 (lets say BBC news) use tools/internet options then make this your home page. close, then open tab 2 lets' say CBFS, and do the same, adding this below BBC in the box... and so on.... now IE opens all these pages on startup..... presumably on PC1 in my case, IE has done this itself (will need to check the settings) - but there's no way I sat and did it myself so I can't understand it... perhaps some keystroke has done it?????

That's a good point Jim. I often see things happen and wonder how the hell I managed to do that!
I'm glad I don't have your problem.. I've enough confusion with what I have already. Multiple windows.. whatever next

Tell me about it Dave..... and that's before I start denying knowledge of things I'm questioned about by SWMBO such as 'How did that end up there' etc

Jim, you've just found a feature that both IE7 and IE8 do, thats allow you to open more than one home page at the same time if required. As you've found, you just enter additional addresses in the Home Page box in options, separating the addresses on a new line each.
You can of course switch off Tabs in IE7 or IE8 if required, from the "General" tab in Internet Options. IE6 didn't have Tabs as far as I can remember, hence it never gave you the "Do you want to close all tab"s alert. You can disable this alert on both IE7 and IE8 if required
Firefox 3.5.3 which I also have does something similar when you close it with a "Do you want Firefox to save your tabs for the next session" alert. You can disable this if you want as well. Firefox 3.5.3 only opens one Home page at a time though.
You do get the odd web site that cheekily prompts you if you want to set it as your home page, that might be adding sites to the list automatically if someone's clicking yes. Vista might also be doing something that XP doesn't re the list of homepages.
Me, I use Google Chrome more than any other browser these days. I'm finding it faster and more polished than either IE7/8 or Firefox myself.

HI Gordon
I think I've sussed that clicking 'use as' will set all tabs into the homepage and voila. I think what I've done previously is exactly that but thinking it applied only to the page that was open!
