Adding objects to scenery

I would like to enhance one of the airports in FS2004 with some hangers.

I'm unsure how to do this but have been told it is fairly easy to do.

Would somebody be able to point me in the right direction?

Hi AD :hello:

There are a number of ways to do this but the easiest I've seen is by using something like EZ Scenery from www.abacuspub.com . This is payware unfortunately but it takes a lot of the pain out of doing what you want to do :)

I use both EZScenery and Runway 12 but the former is the easiest to use and understand. AFCAD is necessary and free for modifications to the airfield structure (taxiways, runways and parking etc.). I also make a lot of use of xml code and "BGLCOMP" from the FS2004SDK...This is handy for using FS2004 Library Objects in your scenery. I recommend that you start with EZScenery which in itself uses XML code and BGLCOMP and then if you open one of their files in Notepad you can see how it works (using xml code does not mean you have to WRITE it. You will mostly copy and paste known code into your own text files and then adjust the LAT and LONG to your requirements before compiling it with BGLCOMP.)

ADE (Airport Design Editor) is the freeware airport design tool for FSX and in it's latest version 'ADE9X' it can now also do the same work in FS9. It also has the ability to place models either directly from a .mdl file or from a model library so you essentially get two tools in one, an airport editor and a model placement tool.

Edit: I have tried the demo of the Abacus EZ Scenery program and was quite surprised as to how easy it was to add objects to default scenery. I will probably purchase this in the next few weeks.

How easy is it to remove default buildings from the default FS2004 airports?

Might I suggest Instant Scenery instead of EZ-Scenery - works just the same (same author), cheaper, and does more.

Hope this helps,

Does anybody know how to exclude the default buildings from a certain airport?

You might want to try ExcBuilder Version 2.0 by Paavo Pihelgas. I think that will exclude buildings if memory serves. It is available at Avsim and there is also a tutorial by David Marshall available which you should grab.
