Time zone problem (and solution)

I am posting this in case anyone else comes across this problem. My default flight is set to KIAD which is Eastern Standard Time and -5 hours from GMT. I noticed when I loaded FS9 and immediatly changed to an airport in the UK, the time (GMT) was one hour earlier than it should have been, with only a four hour offset.
I tried all sorts of things to fix this, including replacing the timezone.bgl file from the installation disks. Then I looked at the default flight and found a section called [DateTimeSeason]" Per that section, I had saved my default flight in the Spring, after DST went into effect. Aha!

I loaded FS again, started the default flight and resaved it. The results are below:
[DateTimeSeason]
Day=2
Year=2010
Hours=8
Minutes=10
Seconds=51
Season=Winter
Prior to the new default file, the season was Spring. That fixed the offset for GMT! I vaguely recall doing this procedure in the distant past, but being chronologically chalenged, I had forgotten until after I stumbled on the solution once again.

The CI has an oddity too.the correct time but Sunrise and Sunset are an hour out
There was a fix patch for this I used to have but I've lost it now on reloads.
Maybe that's tied in with your problem??
It was an FS.9 bug

Gary, thanks for the info! Excuse my ignorance but what is "CI"? I have not noticed any problems with sunrise and sunset times - it gets dark in FS in the UK around 16:00 which I remember when I lived there and visited there as being correct. In my area, darkeness comes around 17:00 which is correct. I don't recall any patch, but if anyone knows a link, please pipe up. Otherwise, I just have to remember to resave my default flight when the time changes from standard time to summer time and visa versa.

It is acting as European time but displaying as GMT

Nigel -
This might be of interest - the info on the Avsim link describes it as 'Shareware, time limited'
http://www.3dsoftworks.net/products/fsr ... wnload.asp
I was sure I had seen a freeware fix for this, but this is the closest I could find, to what I remembered.

I've never found anything to successfully fix this niggling problem and I think it persists in FSX too. Nothing worse than flying from LHR to Hurn and losing an hour.. likewise, as Garry mentioned.. the CI are all out of kilter too

I should really trawl trough all my back up disks I keep in a big box labelled 'Can't be arsed'.......bound to be in there somewhere
Trouble is..if I see it will I recognise it??
Sorry Nigel.............not being a lot of help

apart form saying there is a fix for what I know about and will try and track it down.
Whether or not it will help you I can't say, but hopefully it will.
