AS Tornado F3 FDE

Given that AlphaSim's strong points don't lie in realistic flight dynamics, I didn't expect much from their F3 when I got it. I could probably count the amount of times I've flown it on my hands, since its release, simply because I hate the way it flies. You pull back on the stick and you drop out of the sky like a stone. I seem to remember UKMIL once stating that the F3 can't actually stall from too tight a turn, simply because it won't turn tight enough to do so.
So I don't suppose if anyone's fiddled with the FDE to correct this hideous flight characteristic that the AS model seems to have? I'd love to be able to fly it without stalling and crashing every time I try anything more than flying in a straight line. If not, maybe there's some FDE experts out there who could offer me a helping hand!

Hi Adam..
A noticeable trend started some time ago with Alpha jets.. can't recall which one it was.. might have been the Scimitar but every one since then has been the same, the ones I've bought that is. Come to think of it.. the Scimitar might have been the last one I bought. Damn this memory (or lack of)

I guess the highspeed stall can be fixed but I don't think anyone here has tried
The old Lago GR would stall in a tight turn but that is to be expected. Also.. the Lago GR was built for FS8 and was dragged, some might say reluctantly into FS9 so it has an excuse. Couldn't do with flying straight and level in the Scimitar.. pulling back on the stick for a loop and almost immediately seeing you're stalled at over 400kts

HI Tweek
I too started to get tired of that with the aforementioned model... while I have a flight dynamics editor, I opted to stick the DSB Tornado airfile into the folder....

Ah yes, good idea. I'll give that a try.

for me, if you have the IRIS model, i would use it anyway, it is far more realistic in all aspects, as the AS has some bad visual errors too

Suppose it's just the performance of the AS one, being a native model, that I prefer. The texturing is nicely done, too, and I admire a good paint job.
I tried the old air file trick and there's been several problems with it - underpowered, no afterburner effect, etc etc, so I may just go the whole hog and simply replace everything except the model and paints. May work as I intend, I suppose...

I suppose the mistakes are a lot more noticeable if you have been around them every day for the past 15 years!
Managed to get it flying like the IRIS model now, anyway. Replaced everything bar the aircraft entries, smoke, lights, contact points and flap settings. Seems to have done the trick.
I will ask one thing though. How long does it take for the afterburners to ignite on a real Tornado? Seems to take an age between actually throttling up and seeing a flame in FS.

that is one of the innacuracies of the AS version. I am an engine technician, and often have to do ground runs on the F3, part of which are timing checks. From idle to max dry ]no reheat] from slamming the throttle to engine catching up can be anyhthing upto 4 secs. However, once you go into reheat, there are 3 stages. Min reheat is just above Max dry, and shows little flame. Max reheat takes around 1 sec to light, and combat reheat is just a larger flame. so to answer, if i were to 'slam' check from idle through to max reheat, expect a flame in around 2-4 sec.

I am sure you are aware too, but we have a host of skins for the AS tornado too
