airport building

hi gents

wanted to model my home airport , either for fs9 or fsx , This will be based on developing tool availability and complexity
I want to use the k.i.s.s. approach . most all the buildings/ all of them except the FBO bldg (the one photoed below)
could be default hanger stuff as long as I can add some signage to a few,
and I'll have to redo the taxiways and runways and the grass (FSX has a small pond inthe middle :worried: )
as well as expanding the parking and ramps, and maybe the roadway off Lantana RD that runs along 9 and 27 to the south of the airport
I need to remove and add trees as well. and it will be freeware. :)

any help is much appreciated.

thanks
Joe

AFCAD2 and Flattex to start -- Build the airport plan with AFCAD2 - Flattex will remove scenery and flatten the surrounds
after that dealers choice of what scenery adding you want -- Rnwy12 is probably the better freeware

good luck mate

Grab a copy of the the newly released ADE which is now compatible for both FSX and FS9.

It's is far more usable than the old AFCAD program, and then go take a look around over at FSDeveloper.com .. You'll soon be up over your ears in bgl's, flattens, approaches, ILS frequencies, fences, taxiwas, aprons etc. etc. ....

Agree with Dan mate, things have moved on, even for FS9 users and AFCAD is now old hat. ADE has much more functionality and a really great community support over at FSdeveloper.com. Remember the last version of AFCAD was 2004 I'm sure, and Lee hasn't really supported it since 2005.

Sometimes progress isn't a bad thing ;-)

I have been playing around with ADE since it first came out and it is a very powerful tool but make sure you read the manual/help file as there is a lot to learn regarding it's use.

I also found that grabbing a screenshot of the airport in Goggle Earth and then using that as a template in ADE was a great way of getting the runways aligned correctly, the taxiways and aprons in the correct places and to find the correct locations of the buildings.

Be prepared for a lot of work at first as I found FSX to be way off on the airports I have messed around with.

This has inspired me to have a go too! I want to make RAF Tangmere to fit into Horizon VFR scenery. I will start a new thread when (and if!) I have anything to show!!

Must look into this.... I've been playing with AFCAD, as Google now shows Machrihanish, and the default rendition isn't exactly accurate!

If your on FS9 Jim there was a pretty good Machrihanish already done... I think (but can't remember) it was Iain Gallagher, but can't remember if it was freeware or part of the Scotflight series.
