Classic British Flight Sim

I fell as if I'm tossing a proverbial pebble into a pool: or perhaps a stormy ocean .....

I'm looking to replace my three year old laptop this autumn and wondered what the collective wisdom here was re a spec that would give good FSX (shock horror) performance, as well as continuing to run FS2004 and CFS2. I'm particularly wary of 64 bit processing with respect to the earlier sims, and what impact Windows 9 could have.

Looking at a budget cGBP1,100 max.

Any ideas greatfully received.

A Dell XPS M1730 is probably your best bet with an 8700GT graphics card. If you go for a 2.4GHz processor you should come in at just under £1200. I have this laptop and provided you run most things on Medium it will be OK for FSX. It will run FS2004 no problems. I got mine just over a year ago and managed to get XP Pro. Now it's not an option, 64 bit is the future, but with so few 64-bit programs available the OS SHOULD be fully 32-bit compliant. I certainly have no problems running FSX on my Vista 64 PC, and FSX is still only a 32-bit application.

Something your not telling us? ;-) For the £1,100 mark id surgest you try either a specialist pc (I.E Dell/alienware) or go for a self build!

For about the same price you could get a DELL Vostro 1720, it would only have a 8600M grahics card but it would come with a 2.66GHz processor and 8GB RAM. 8 gigs is not much use for FS but very future proof for other applications. The 8600M would perform reasonably well with FSX
