Only took an hour before I cocked it up :-(

Starting my second rating flight in the 748, I obviously started at the only Gate and then found the plane refuelling automatically to 100%. Obviously this is seen as a cheat by FSA and I was ignominiously chucked out and told the VA would suffer as a result.
Sorry guys. I knew about the refuelling cheat but never thought that a gate would be close to a refuelling point.
Is there a way to stop the idiots from brim filling my tanks whenever I get close to a refuelling point?

Hi Gary,
There is no way of disabling the refuelling points in FSX, just pick a different parking place or taxi out of the way before you start the client. The client is a bit more intelligent now and will try and take the fuel and put it back to where it should be. However, if you stay too long at a refuel point the client will 'argue' with the MS refueller for only so long until it aborts the flight. When the flight aborts, it resets the client back to booked status so you just have to fly again. Not so bad at the start of a flight but a downer if it happens at the end of a long flight, but I guess folk will only do it once ;-) . Konny must have changed the message if it says something about VA rep as it wasn't there when testing it before release? The message was previously something along the lines 'Inflight fuelling detected flight aborted'. When you go to the client there is a MS Windows message to acknowledge and then the client resets itself. Is that what you got?
Regards
John

Yes I got a green message on sceen, and the Windows message. I could've sworn I saw that it said the VA rep would go down as a result in the client window before it reset though.
Ho hum. I restarted it on the Active Runway and flew it perfectly in the end... Except I forgot to put on the Landing Lights before TO!!! DOH! I was out of my comfort zone and rushing so as not to keep the active runway for too long.
To me, flights should start and end at a gate or parking.
I'll get used to it eventually. Must admit though, the extra responsibility is an excellent addition to the sim. All I need to do now is learn to not put too much fuel in to start. I've landed twice now with twice as much fuel as the plane had when I picked it up. Suppose it's better than running dry on finals though.
Thanks for setting me up, I'll do my best to not let the airline down.

Hi Gary,
You can start/end the flight at a gate no problem as long as the gate is not next to the refuel point. If at a small airport with limited parking spots just pushback a bit away from the refuel point and reduce your fuel. If you don't get refuelled back to 100% you know you are clear. Start the client and away you go.
Take a look at the route enquiry page and select the 748 flights and you'll see what fuel has been used on prevuious flights and get a handle on how much per hour to plan for, plus of course your reserves. Take note of fuel prices at airports as well, they vary quite a bit. Imagine you are paying for the fuel yourself and you'll soon learn ;-)
Careful though, this VA flying can be addictive.

John

Yes I use the figures for average block fuel and fuel flow. What I'm aiming for is leaving the same amount of fuel on board as when I pick up the aeroplane. So I go for adding the block fuel, plus 45 minutes reserve (0.75 x fuel flow) then add a bit more for possible diversion.
My problem yesterday was forgetting then to divide the number by 2 for each tank...

So although I'd calculated I needed to add 600 kg (or thereabouts) I added 600 to each tank. DOH!
Pilots may start following me round and taking whatever plane I was last in at this rate.

It'll come mate.. that's why we have training routes. Within a few flights, you'll wonder what all the fuss was about ;-) Try not to damage your personal record as this will stay with you. There are no extra points for keeping a clean sheet but it's nice if you have one (I don't)
