Steven D. Meyers did a Porterfield-Turner 'Collegiate' some years back and was wondering does anybody know where to find the base model?

I havent flown that for ages - thanks for reminding me as was one of my favourites for FS2002 as I always had a problem landing it!!! Used to fly it in 2004, but since a new upgrade havent tried it for ages so perhaps now its time to reintroduce it to my virtual hangar. Thought that there was something 'wrong' with it in the latter sim, but this could of course be down to my TrackIR seeing a tail that isnt there etc. Only one way to find out and I'll do that tomorrow.

Edit: Just seen from the download site that it originally was for 2004, so it must be my memory. But still remember I had problems flying it! :)

Thanks for the link Brian.

I had been looking for the Porterfield for ages and now I finally have it!

Quite a good VC model and the external model is good. Need to find an alternative prop texture though.

Speaking of Eclectic American aircraft

The little airport I used to hang out at in North East Alabama not only had a Porterfield but also one of these --

any one besides Chris and Brian know what it is???

Ahh, the funky ol' Funk. :) I believe this particular model also went by the name 'Customaire'. It would be easy to remove bird nests from that cowling, eh? :lol:

It is indeed a Customaire :)

And yes the cowl is big enough to change the front plugs through and ALMOST reach the back ones as well :)

Been there done that have the teeshirt and cap :)

Really a nice little airplane

Whatever it was that I found wrong about the Porterfield must have been in my imagination as re-installed it again today and had a wonderful time flying her around. Still had a little problem on landing (probably due to the narrow undercarriage of course!), but with TrackIR didnt find anything missing at all. A lovely flying machine.

As to the Funk:

The Funk B was designed and built by the Funk Brothers as a prototype at the end of 1933. The first aeroplane was powered by a 3 cylinder 45hp Szekley engine, but this was replaced by a converted Ford Model A engine and was known as the Akron Model E-200-E4L.

The Funk B was a high wing side-by-side two seater with a rather tubby fuselage and tailwheel undercarriage. It went into production with the Funk Brother's Akron Aircraft Inc in Ohio and the first pre-production and the initial batch were fitted with the E200 engine. This was followed by a further batch with an upgraded 75hp Lycoming and these were known as the Model B75L.

In 1941 Akron Aircraft Inc ceased operation having built 151 aircraft. Funk finally ceased production in 1948 after 188 examples were built. The last 20 aircraft were known as the Customaire (basically the Funk B85C with a 85hp Continental) with minor changes to their internal trim.
